A-1 is usually a hit or miss studio. On one hand, we have shows like Magi, The Seven Deadly Sins, Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash, and Blue Exorcist, but on the other hand we have shows like The Asterisk Wars, the second season of Black Butler, Sword Art Online (debatable but I feel it is mediocre), and Gate (debatable but I feel it is mediocre). My point is that this could be really good or really bad. You never really know with A-1.

I'll give you Seven Deadly Sins, but the other ones can go join the latter category.

Well okay, except maybe Blue Exorcist. That's mostly just a case of me being salty about how much better the manga's artstyle is and how the adaptation fails at capturing it.

I really liked Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash, and Magi is my personal favorite anime of all time. Regardless, you get my point. Shows made by A-1 are usually either a hot or miss. You never really know with them.

The thing with A1 pictures as opposed to most other notable anime studios like Shaft, Madhouse, Bones, KyoAni etc. is that they don't really have in staff creators, preferring to hire freelancers to do their stuff for them and then be on their merry way. As such an A1 pictures series pretty much lives and dies by its creative staff. I'm not saying you for sure shouldn't watch this show for sure, but once the staff list is released it should give you a pretty good indication of what kind of quality you're in for.

Edit: okay so apparently the director is also responsible for directing Rakugo Shinju. This show is probably in gopd hands after all.

...probably.

Wow after getting through all that A-1 hate, I'll just say I'm greatly looking forward to this as a big Lodoss War fan.

If the source is good the anime will likely be too. The only concern I have with A-1 is the animation. Will we get something fun like Saekano or will we get whatever the heck happened to Qualidea Code's animation?

While A-1 is hit or miss with their shows, at least until recently they have all looked good. The animation quality is usually high, but it depends on their budget as shows made on a shoestring budget look pretty bad. Fairy Tail (the second season when they collaborated with Bridge instead of Satelight), Qualidea Code, Ace Attorney, and Occultic;Nine are low budget productions from what I can tell and the animation quality takes a nosedive without the money.

Well, it definitely looks like an A-1 show. That's fine though, as long as the story is good, and considering that we have the director of Rakugo and the same author of Lodoss War (and the score for the light novel is pretty high on MAL), I have pretty high hopes. I'm excited for this one.

Aniplex of America has just announced the license for this show, so that means it's not going to be hogged away by Amazon or Netflix for themselves. A lot could change, but assuming that nothing changes with Aniplex of America, it will be on Crunchyroll come January in addition to other places.
