There are forums talking about if you would like to learn Japanese but I want to know why you are choosing not to learn Japanese if you want to? Are you lazy? Don't have the time? What is keeping you from learning Japanese? I studied by myself for a year before going to college to pursue a major in it. I am currently a junior and I am in Japan right now getting better each day, so tell me what is keeping you from entering the amazing world of Japanese?

It's a lot of effort to put in to ultimately be bad at something.

TOO MANY WEABOOS IN ONE SETTING MY EARS CAN ONLY TAKE SO MUCH OF THEIR PHONETIC DISASTERS.

On a serious note it takes too much time and effort and the former I don't have in abundance.

Time I guess.

I already know a bunch that's helpful at least, I can read hiragana and katakana, and studied Mandarin at university so my kanji recognition is alright. I can get around fine when I'm in Japan for a holiday anyway.

Don't get why people invest all that money and time on pursuing a language course at uni. Spend your resources on something a few books can't teach you.

Because I have to work all the time to barely fail to stay just behind even rather than getting ahead.

I would love to but I don't really got time or need for it, well I could use it with the Japanese that live with me, but were in Italy so it's still kinda pointless lol

When I have more free time I need to learn Italian and German first, Italian because I'll probably(hopefully) live in Italy again next year and German because I might be making a lot of trips there next year.

I don't like languages. Actually I just don't like learning in general. It's tiring nowadays. It used to be fun. Now it's tiring. Even simple subjects like business admin, I felt so tired just listening to the teacher.

I'm at an age where I just want to travel the world, and experience new things.

First off thank you guys for all the responses.

I think there is merit to learning a language in college, one it gives the opportunity to study abroad for longer than a semester (as most people who study abroad do) and there are many job positions that one can do with a language. Translating, working between 2 countries, and others but a friend of mine told me this, "people can teach you how to fix or create, or do something but they can never teach you how to speak a language" which is why I feel learning a foreign language will give me more opportunities.

To the point of being a weaboo I mean what the hell? My major is Japanese, I've been learning for 3 years and I don't think I'm a weaboo and the 100+ foreigners living in my dorm who also practice Japanese are not weaboos so I struggle to understand that point. A person is not a weaboo if they dedicate themselves to learning Japanese. If that was true than people who learn German are germaboos and so on and so forth. People are weaboos when they don't care to learn and study Japan and its culture and instead act like they know it all.

Anyway, thanks for all the conversation starters guys, I hope to hear from more people!!!

I don't plan on actually going there. I just happen to like anime. Gardening is a hobby of mine so I'd love to go just to see the plants and do some sketches, but it's not like I need to know Japanese to enjoy the natural beauty of the land :p

Edit for addition info. I'm into anime, sure but going out of my way to learn Japanese seems to weeby. It requires lots of time and effort , and doesn't seem to have much of a use in my day-to-day life.
