6/10

Name: Elizabeth

Age: 24 - 29

Strengths: Determined; she will not bend or be forced to take back her actions. Her life has made her vengeful; being owned and forced to sleep with clientele by one of the most feared men in Manhattan, she made an attempt on his life and as such had her lover taken from her along with her beauty. She refused to allow him any sense of empowerment after disfigured her face and threw her through his apartment window to the ground below. She healed in hospital and learned that he had gotten off without any repercussions - the beauty of owning half the police force. Elizabeth decides to dedicate her life to vengeance - removing all signs of beauty from her former owners life and ultimately relieving her city of his corrupting influence.

Weakness: She refuses to allow herself to be seen. Having once been one of the few most beautiful women her owner had ever seen, his jealousy and rage drove him to disfigure Elizabeth so severely to prevent her beauty from blinding men ever again. She covers her entire body and covers her face with a dark veil; she is a recluse, she has no connections past the doctor who healed her and gave her comfort. She uses only blades, although she has her previous owners favourite revolver with her at all times, with one bullet meant for only him.

Occupation: Previously the property of Sampson - Manhattans most feared underground figure; she was used as a bargaining chip in negotiations and given to clientele as a promise of good intentions between men. She was forces to service Sampson whenever and where ever he decided - no exceptions. After healing, she gets by a day at a time by shutting down drug dens owned by Sampson and relieving his employees of their ill gotten gains.

Fun Fact: She takes delight in pleasuring the men she captures and removing her veil nearing their point of climax so she can bask in the tormented horror in their eyes as their fantasy crumbles around them.

I'm not feeling it with this character. Her insecurities would probably work pretty well playing opposite some other characters, but that doesn't seem like the avenue you're going down seeing as she apparently only hangs out with one person. As for the rest, well I'm not sure there's really all that much. The strengths section tells me about as much about the villain as it does the protagonist, if not more. This character seems to be about on the same par as other leads in rape/revenge stories.

Also, can we please stop just assigning scores to these characters and never actually explaining why? In criticism a score is often used as a means to let a consumer know how different products compare to one another in the critic's opinion but this is constructive criticism and not consumerist criticism. Just giving somebody a number is antithetical to this thread because it does not give any actual advice.

Also I feel like we're getting too serious on this thread so I'm going to make this post on the main character from one of my more light and humorous stories. So if you're scratching your head at the sudden shift in tone and setting from my many previous and more homogenous entries, that's why.

Name: Charles Boktor, The Child Adductor

Age: 40

Strengths: To abduct something is to take it away, to adduct something is to bring it back. Charles Boktor is a child adductor, making his living finding children who have ran or been taken away from their homes and families and bringing them back to safety. This of course means he has several skills and resources at his disposal to assist him in his work. These include, but are not limited to; a keen sense for detection allowing him to observe evidence of the whereabouts of missing children far better than anyone outside of a police force. Several contacts around America who can help keep an eye out for any missing children. His faithful (albeit easily distracted) dog Crackerjack, who's sense of smell aids greatly in finding just about anything and most important of all a smartphone with unlimited data nationwide so that he can see any updates regarding the children he's looking for. He is also very proud of his work, which he performs well thanks to his intelligence and work ethic. He also is a very self respecting man. Despite several things about him regularly leading people to believe he is a child abductor instead of an adductor he never feels insecure or that he should change his appearance for other people if he doesn't want to.

Weaknesses: He has a receding hairline, a thick mustache, large thick glasses and a comb-over. These all make him look like a stereotypical pedophile and his sweet tooth and the fact that his job requires tracking down children do not help this in the slightest. This often leads to him getting into several unfavorable situations like being beaten repeatedly by a woman's handbag or being wrongly arrested and detained. He's also very clumsy and scatterbrained in spite of his intelligence, often misplacing certain things and bumping into others. He's also easily distracted and unfocused. Although his skill can legitimately take him far in his missions, he usually seems to succeed through pure luck. His people skills aren't the best either. He has trouble reading people and is prone to getting mixed up somehow due to a misunderstanding.

Fun Fact: He's a big Harry Potter fanboy. He wears glasses with large thick lenses because they make him more closely resemble the eponymous character. ...In his opinion, anyway.

Haven't participated in these forum games in years. Anyhoo, my OC was born in these forums years ago (I'm not going to grade people's OCs based on originality because of the ironic connotation with "OCing". I don't claim mine to be 100% original either as I've had multiple inspirations).

Name: Masako Maeda

Age: 17-19 (over span of comic)

Strengths: She's bilingual, street smart, book smart, pragmatic, an urban survivalist, a fluid thinker, and a self-taught B-girl.

Weakness: She only works to the beat of her own drum, is a procrastinator, quick to avoid conflict, and will do anything to get out of doing mundane work.

Occupation: A drifter, currently is a home maker for the other protagonists, a family of two siblings and an alien girl.

Fun Fact: She's an ovo-pescetarian for plot-related reasons. She believes in reincarnation, collects travel maps as a hobby, and loves designer-brand sneakers. She is shamelessly open to talking about her body, the birds-and-the-bees, and bowel movements.

Here's an artwork of her:

Age

Strengths

Weakness

Follow the Example:

And so on and so forth.

My Turn:

Character Name: Demetrius Zachariah Alexander Eisenhower (Demi)

Age: 17

Strengths: Demetrius is a caring but stern person who thinks highly of his sister. He is intelligent and clever. Demetrius may not look it be he cares deeply about his country which is why he serve in the military. He is very protective of people he starts to care about once he gets to know them. As a Grand-Prince he is well known in politics and has what it takes to make a fine Grand-Emperor.

Weakness: Demetrius has a rather cold demeanor and is very blunt. He is a jerk who is strict and really stern. Even though he cares he about people. It will take some getting use to for him to at least show that he is caring. His sister hates his jerk ways even though he is nice to her. Demetrius is partially xenophobic towards Prometheans due to a traumatic experience

Occupation: Grand-Prince and Arch-Knight

Fun Fact: He is good at playing the guitar.

Enjoy!!!

Can we please bring this back? I really miss this game, especially because I feel it helped me create some of my favourite characters like Savinien of The Berg and King Magnolus by forcing me to think outside the box (ish) I really wish I could have that incentive once again (even though I probably won't actually end up doing anything with these characters)

2x agreed sir. I appreciate your approach to this thing. You actually take time to evaluate another's work, which adds value and lends meaning to this whole deal. Not just this thread, but the whole forum, the internet, the world would be much better off if people would make a little time to actually hear one another and think about what is being said and what it means to the person saying it. Let's make this thread great again

Ugh... I did not ever done well on those games, but oh well. Let's use it as 'detox' from daily-work and an actual character creations. Since it's short, simple and might be fun.

First of all may I rate last entry by Chopsuey9444

7/10
- it's quite original no doubt and haves a lot of quirks. As far as I know you it probably could be 8 or 9 out of ten but ... from information we got here. Sounds like fun 'slice-of-life' type of main character (also long time no see )

And now to mine. Foreword: it's basically bunch of WIP on my actuall main character for certain comic project. Let us hope it'll work out somehow. Especially since I would love to see more cool main female characters XD (though Bless Type Moon on this note)

Character's Name: Wuming (literally - Nameless in Chinese) later on Wuming Zi (with 'Zi' character for 'purple')

Age:
17 (7 in prelude)

Strengths: Main one would probably be survivability. This girl is seriously a source of countless "How the hell you're still alive!?" moments due to her story, nature, training and personality (last one being more of a reason for such situations than remedy). She is prodigious when it comes to memorizing and analyzing things (especially in combat) but prone to achieve state best described as 'tranquil fury' before she can truly use those.

Weakness: Social awkwardness, many times lack of common sense and definitely 'being silent type'. She is bound to create misunderstandings and at worst case make enemies. Same time it's hard for her to commune in general as she wasn't raised with a lot human to human interactions. Counting some 'fighting' weaknesses along (since she's meant as heroine in Xianxia storyline - no avoiding that) she does not deal well with cryomancers (Ice manipulators in general) and projectile users (especially flying ones, she really, really tries to avoid those)

Occupation: Spiritual practitioner and Vagabond ... if it tells anything. It's hard to explain what she does exactly since it's directly related to story but let's say there is underground, ring fighting and some dose od vigilantism bound to be involved (geez, now it sounds almost like Arc System Works game plotline XD)

Fun Fact: She... can eat bugs. Before you judge - imagine being alone in deep jungle since 7 y.o. as sole survivor of massacre and having sadistic (possibly deranged) but extremely strong and very, very old man as your only recurring company. He literally comes by from time to time and would not provide any food. Did I mention monsters all around? So yep.. that way she got used to even eating bugs and does not seem disgusted by them even in the slightest by age of 17 (ask her and she'll tell you which are tasty and which are nutritious).

I don't dislike the Wuming character, but there doesn't seem to be that much info on her personnality given. The drawings help a bit, mind you.

Okay, finally going now.

Name: Walpurga Lamiis

Age: changes throughout the story

Strengths: Walpurga has a near unlimited budget, due to her position as a high ranking member of the Duchy of Habict's military. This is very beneficial since magi tend to rely heavily on magic items to strengthen their power. As a person, compassionate, driven and just. In her homeland people of her status possess several serfs but only she had the empathy to let hers go. Unfortunately, having lived their entire lives as slaves meant that they had no concept of how to live as regular citizens and they came back only a few weeks later having spent all the year's supply of money she had given them asking her to take them back in as servants. After hearing about Praevar's group, she would begin to seek them out, having now realized that she couldn't fix all the injustices around her on her own and so concluded that she must join a group that shared her cause. Because she is a greatly talented mage she is incredibly proficient in offensive magic and is a valuable asset for high damage and crowd control.

Weaknesses: While she is very proud, she can be so to the point of being stubborn. While she was studying to become a mage she mostly kept to herself and refused help from others, seeing them as her competitors. This is somewhat reflected on the battlefield, where she prefers to keep to herself and attack the enemy head on, being less willing to partake in tricks and strategies. This is a problem because magi are almost always glass cannons. While she can deal a lot of punishment, she can't take much of it and while her resistance to other spells is strong, physical attacks can do quite a number on her. Off the battlefield Walpurga is a bit overcompetitive, turning even mundane things into contests of skill.

Occupation: Mage

Fun fact: This is just a rework of the last character I listed under this name. I may retool her again depending on the feedback I get.

Well to score originality 6/10. While I've considered it mostly 'originality counter' game I might do some short review if you're ok with that .

To explain things further: there is quite a bit of content many people would find generic: like plain altruistic nature or wealth. Such characters often are put in deuteragonist role to avoid being called Mary Sue (or Martin Stu). Let's say: role wise Emilie de Rochefort would be alike (despite setting being visibly different). And yes: you put a legitimate weaknesses but those also might be problematic since they either will be overlooked if not exponentially shown or get overused and make her look like damsel in distress otherwise. Personally I think a good balance for such disparity is ... a good rival. Yet then again it might employ well known and well liked but surely generic situation of 'good rivals' where one is wealthy. More used in games. In Emilie case it's Asuka Kasama... and in fact it's popular trope of fighting games since Ryuu and Ken from Street Fighter.

Overall I think she's really cool and with equally interesting cast surrounding her she might be well received (do not focus story too much on her alone but rather her relation to others). What I could only hint to make her bit more original:
-make her cornerstone
By that I mean that she should be a 'force behind' something in story (like organisation or such) and keep rivalry or friendship with more than one character on different planes (Magic, determination, wealth etc). And when she is in danger due to weaknesses make her either fight till bitter end against all odds (for drama XD) or be wise and tactical enough to 'minimize loss' (not win totally since this would annoy people, most dislike such ex-machina things)

Ok! Now once again my turn

This time character not in main cast but for same story. Practically she's support considering she'll appear later on with minimal and mentor-like application to story... unless story will progresses (for now I need to whip up and start 'makin' those damn panels!")

Character's Name: Léihuǒ Nǚshén (雷火 女神)

Age: 634 (mentally she acts alike to bit-childish girl in her 20s but at times she might show her age by unnatural wisdom and cunning - yet it is rare thing for her. She looks like 19-23 y.o.)

Strengths: At the time she appears in story Léihuǒ is entity akin to goddess and she practically is revered as one. Her aspect being swordsmanship she is considered as one of (if not the) most prodigious being to ever use sword. She herself developed and mastered style employing 4 blades at once. This style is so insane that at time she enters story not even one of her 'followers' is able to use it effectively. Even among her kind she was always considered extremely unpredictable and dangerous. Her most praised aspect is her speed claimed by her sect members 'unmatched in and under the heaven' (whether it's absolute truth is left for debate though). Personality-wise she's quite playful and rarely takes things seriously, while enjoying any 'thrill' provided by any kind of hazard or challenge.

Weakness: Her temper, arrogance and actually even insane talents all made her in conclusion an outcast among her own kind and any other sentient beings of her time. Léihuǒ picked up bad habit of easily getting bored (in fact being straight out lazy and unimpressed all of the time). Same time she at all times retained her arrogance which lead to a kind of downfall when she made a certain bet which forced her to "not being able to use her own power and abilities for her own sake in next 777 years". Angered by that fact she decided to seclude herself completely for a long time as she deemed 'no one was worthy of using her anyway'. This in fact points to other demerit of her personality: Léihuǒ is very prideful person and it is possible to anger her... though mercy on anyone who dares since she retains quite clear mind in battle terms once angry, yet might go too far and isn't merciful.

Occupation: Legendary Master Swordsman, Elementalist of Fire and Lightning, Lesser Deity worshiped by over 300 years old sect.

Fun Fact: Her design sketch began life as character for different story and I honestly think she might be a link in between both as she seems like entity able to appear in both of those storylines.

Dandare: I score your original character as 8/10.

Overall your character is actually pretty neat. I like how Leihuo is a mastered swordsman with many different style and how her temper is will often get her in trouble as well. I also like her character design, she looks like a cool and fun character.

Okay here I go.

Character's Name: Jin Kanto

Age: 18-21 years old. (Over the course of the story)

Strength: He may appear shy and timid, but he actually has a strong heart and is determined to accomplish any challenges that comes his way. He also a very powerful priest with vast spiritual powers, he ranks just below his father, with his grandmother being the most powerful one of the family. These power include him to communicate with spirits, is able to infuse his spiritual power with items to aid him in many of challenges, creates very powerful barrier. Jin spiritual powers grants him access his potential and allows him to perform many technique; he can sense spiritual presence, go through barriers and can survive in the spirit world for a good amount of minutes. Spiritual power aside, Jin is also a resourceful fighter; he will use his wits to outsmart his opponents and overcome challenges within the spirit world. While is shy, he is very friendly and is easily excited.

Weakness: As mentioned, Jin isn't exactly the powerhouse physical wise. This leads to a disadvantage when it comes to bigger enemy or anyone who is more powerful than him. Aside from that, Jin is very insecure with his spiritual powers due to his traumatic past experience. In addition, he is isolates himself from other humans, he feels that he is not worth anyone attention and does not want to drag anyone into trouble.

Occupation: Priest (In training), Servant/Messanger of Amaterasu

Fun Fact: Jin is one my characters that went through many re-design when I was re-writing my story. At first he was going to be a young 15 year old who is a half demon. He then was a guardian who purpose in the story was to protect the world from evil. I felt very conflicted with his character and the story, it didn't really click with me. After I was looking up Japanese Mythology/folklore/culture, I decided to make his character a priest with spiritual powers. And I up his age to 18-21 year old.

Shadowdream20 - I score Jin Kanto a 8/10, although like what has been said in this thread I'm not scoring based on originality because it's almost impossible to make something that is completely original these days. My scoring in this thread will be based on what I would like to read, and how interesting that I find the character.

As for what I think about Jin, I like him, I really like him and would totally read a novel that tells his story! Or manga? I might have given Jin an 9, or even a 10 but it's pretty much my curiosity that held his rating back. I've always found spiritual powers fascinating, and Jin reminds me a little about a book series I'm currently reading, but still with some differences.

I am interested about his past, and what made it traumatic, but his weaknesses make sense, I think, and he sounds even a little adorable. At the moment, I'm picturing a fairly small kid about 5'6-8-10 and wiry?

Do you have a Deviantart account? I'd love to read what you have so far. Actually, this question goes for anyone in this thread!

Okay, so I guess it's my turn.

Character's Name: Seleh Ross - I quite like her first name, but last will likely change since I'm not too sure about it.

Age: 17 - 21

Personality: I thought I'd separate personality and strength, hope you don't mind!

Seleh is abrasive and fowl mouthed and she tends to keep to herself. She has difficulty trusting people and because of this she is shrouded in secrecy. There are very few people that she will ever let in, and Seleh can count them on one hand. She can often seem a little overbearing, even towards her own allies, she doesn't enjoy making friends, she would rather do her job. She doesn't know how to social, for the most part, and will often come across as awkward, even a little timid. Seleh is young, though, and she will often be overconfident in her abilities. She quickly rose to the top of her class during training, she knows how good she is and will hold everyone, no matter how new, or how much younger they are, to her standards. However, despite her antagonistic nature Seleh isn't a bully, she actually fights with every ounce of her being to protect humanity from evil.

Strength: Seleh is street smart and a con-artist, and also pretty decent at Parkour. She's agile, a little pocket rocket at 5'0, so she's quick. She's a decent martial artist if just a little on the short end. She's also a conjurer, and can summon objects made of aura. Her favorite is a weapon, a doubled bladed one handed scythe. The weapon is probably about half the length of a typical scythe, with two full length blades curving out in opposite directions. Whilst an angel, especially an arc angel will be a much better conjurer, Seleh's conjurations will appear wild, and crude unlike the smooth aura made objects of angels.

Weakness: At 5'0 Seleh is tiny, and so she won't have the reach of some people. If she happens to be caught, then she's likely going to be manhandled, and thrown around like a rag doll. Also, despite her strengths she's just a human, with all those human fragilities. Her arrogance and overconfidence will also come into play as well, and she will often take on more than she can handle.

Occupation: Demon fighter. Through history there have been certain bloodlines of families that fight an everlasting holy war, that between the angels and demons. Selah is part of one of these families and she has trained since the first moment she was capable. Each of the four big brothers and sister, the arc angels Michael - Mike, Rapheal, Uriel and Gabriella - Gabi are each the commanders is God's army. Depending on your personality, you're assigned to one of these commanders. I had originally thought Seleh would be under Gabi, but I think that she's better suited to Rapheal's battalion. I'm also not sure what nicknames to give Rapheal and Uriel, or whether I shouldn't give any of them nicknames.

Fun Fact: Seleh has a twin sister, Jordyn, and she's basically the complete opposite. And they'll have a duel point of view in the story. Jordyn is incredibly naive about the supernatural world because her father never wanted her to have any part in the world. At the end of the story, I plan for Selah and Jordyn, to have a big confrontation/battle, but she will eventually come under Mike's forces.

SethSnyder - I'd give Seleh Ross a 6.5/10

I like the abrasive personality and foul (I assumed you meant swears and uses bad-language rather than talks about birds a lot) as it doesn't turn into a negative life path so you've got an annoying hero with chance to mellow and grow, but who really sticks it to the bad guys. Secrecy is fine, especially if it hides something silly or embarrassing rather than "OMG Chosen One!!"
The physics of a stick with a scythe blade on each end are going to be complex to keep track of in a fight, enjoy that :)
Small, light, high speed and high dex fighter is pretty standard, but there's only certain possibilities available so not a problem. I assume she can escape when overmatched when she takes on more than she can handle.

And my tedious offering

Name - Adam Redbridge

Age - 26

Strengths - Intelligent, self-confident, mildly amusing, competent sketch artist, learns skills not related to his work or social life

Weaknesses - Limited interest in social interactions, truthful and blunt in situations he shouldn't be, assumes others can do the things he can, uses long and "fringe" words (e.g. someone who uses coding jargon into a normal conversation when appropriate, even if the other person wouldn't understand), has a very shallow interaction with most people as individuals, but is interested in "people" as social and psychological groups.

Occupation - PA to several department heads in an educational institution

Fun Fact - Because of his wide ranging work roles and tasks Adam is known to more people in the organisation then he actually recalls. He will (and has) have conversations with people he has no memory of ever meeting, but recognise him on sight and call him by name.

And now I've written it down like that I want to change the guy. Ah well, enjoy clearing the low bar.
