I view anime as a medium which allows people to express creativity and tell powerful/emotional/funny stories that would otherwise be impossible to do in real television or through any other format. It's like an art.

It's something that leads me into a new world and something that I can connect to on a personal level.

It helped keep my occupied in my imagination during church.

I was bored all the time so I had anime occupy my imagination. I figure the more anime I watch the more imagination fuel I have for the times when I'm bored.

Because there's always so much creative potential within the franchise. It's also one of the reasons I watch so little anime nowadays, no one actually makes anything that lives up the medium's creative potential. You can't really say recycled character models (both types), slice of life archetypes, and the seemingly non-stop barrage of idol and harem shows aren't doing much to help that either.

Reddit's three R's of r/jokes is definitely shining its light here.

My first anime I remember seeing is one called Crying Freeman. My dad bought one of those big-ass satellite dishes that could get all kinds of weird channels. One of them was an indy channel that occasionally aired anime. I remember seeing this half naked man with a dragon tattoo jump around a wrestling ring. It looked completely different than anything I've seen before.

Afterward I would go back to the channel and was treated to some some great stuff like Golgo 13, Lupin the 3rd, Robot Carnival & Zillion. Damn that brings me back. Anyways the rest is history because. I loved the way it looked and the maturity of it. I was hooked.

I stopped watching anime around the early 2000's. The art style around that time started to become less appealing to me and I just gave it up. But several years ago I got back into it with help of some key anime like AoT, SAO, Kids on the Slope and a few more. I figured I was missing out on so much and drove in full blast.
