There is so much to unpack in this comment.

Sure. Takes the pressure off of me to have one if they've already got one. I don't want to have kids of my own, but I don't mind being a nice stepmom.

probably not don't see why in most cases why i should raise someone else kid. plus if it was from a break up thats often a warning sign that things won't work out.

I have a hard enough time warming up to people without the addition of some kid who thinks I'm trying to replace their dad.

Absolutely not! Raising a kid requires time and money. Why should I spend those raising some douchebag's offspring? Especially if that guy is still in the picture. Not to mention it's going to be hell when he becomes a teenager and starts doing dumb stuff, since the fact that I'm not his father will become one more reason to ignore what I have to say and keep doing dumb crap.

Second, I've read that in some provinces, they passed a law where if you live as a couple with someone (I think the proper translation in English would be common-law couples) and that person has a kid, if / when the couple splits, you are legally bound to provide alimony for that kid who isn't even yours until he reaches 18, because you were a parent figure for that kid. Some groups in my province are pushing for such a law.

That takes some serious balls mate, props to the ladies who manage this without going insane, that's not easy.

Yes, I'd have respect for you. But more like the respect I'd have for a good boss and not as a lover.

Define mild mannered?

Easy. A calm, gentle personality, with a general lack of aggressiveness. Shy, but nice and pleasent to be around.

That being said, good luck ever finding a lady like that. I really need to lower my standards a bit for acceptable girlfriends, as well as raise my own standards for myself.

I did and now we're married.

My stepson is terrible, and I'd bet both testicles he's a psychopath. I love my wife, but it is hard. Luckily, the mini-murder lives with his neanderthal father, so we've got that going for us.

My wife tries to love him no matter what, but he makes it hard on her, too. I stay out of it. Lately, she's putting distance between him and our family for the safety of our daughters.

Why am I saying this? Because it could happen to you. I wouldn't take anything back, but I don't recommend anyone else do it, either.

Been there, done that. I'm old enough to know that some guys will have had children from previous relationships. I'm fine with it. Heck I ended up with a step-father when I was a teen. Even grandfather took on 4 children as his. Grandmother outlived 2 husbands. I also grew up where everything was family orientated so everyone is expected to have to deal with children sooner or later whether you're their parents or not.

I agree. Didn't expect there to be this many. Values are changing I guess.

It's a bit weird evolutionary speaking, those who hate kids won't get any kids and pass on their values, so that view should gradually die out, not the other way around. I think we should blame the internet. Although I said most of this jokingly, there is some true issues behind it. We might risk more and more western countries ending up like Japan, with rapidly decreasing population.
