So tell me does your family or do your friends know you write stories? If they don't know, are you willing to tell them? If they do know, how will they respond to you writing as a hobby or with a career goal in mind? Would they care? Or would they not care? Would they be happy for you? Or disappointed? Tell me.

My Turn:
Yeah, my mother know and I think my friend knows. I don't think my mother minds me writing.

Enjoy!!!

My family knows that I write articles and for websites, but they don't know that I have an interest in "story telling". I don'tplan on having them read any of my work because I don't want them to know just how "creative" I am.

I'm a screenwriting/creative writing major rn, they know I write, they just don't know what I write exactly (I bounce around genres pretty drastically), but neither do I. I occasionally show my work to a few people I trust to give me strong and knowledgeable critique. My parents know it's a hobby and something I want to incorporate into my career. I haven't told my family that my entire life goal is to create and produce Yuri series, anime and/or manga, but then again they don't even know what Yuri is, they do accept and support my love for the medium. My parents are very pushy for me to follow my passions in life, rather than worry about supporting them, which just means I have to follow my passions strongly enough to be able to support them with it. I'm pretty sure when I eventually tell them I'm making gay girl anime and manga they'll be like "Yeah, that sounds like you."

Honestly I've met parents who put their children down for taking up writing and to me that's just horrendous. It's the same thing as those who try to force art away from kids. Art, writing or painting or anything else, is about self expression and exploration. It speaks volumes to me that we're afraid of such things, at the risk of not making enough money in the future.

Well, my family and friends know I write but I tend to rarely tell most of them where they can find the stories themselves. Usually, only my brother, my GFs and my somewhat open to shattered reality friends know where to find my writing to read. My mother, other relatives, traditional friends and friends of the family know I write but I have never told them where or under what names. I don't think they could seriously take the shock of seeing me (who looks like an extra from Goodfellas and Gene Simmons had a baby) writing romance fics, stories and novels.
