I vaguely remember hearing while on vacation there-- it was either Australia or New Zealand-- that deer farming was a fairly major industry. I used to be able to find deer on sale at the Ranch 99 (big Asian grocery market chain in California, and probably elsewhere too) about 10 years ago, but haven't seen it recently. They had emu too. Still have ducks, which are popular with Chinese folks (often had it instead of turkey on Thanksgiving when growing up).

I don't hunt, but that seems really abusive to the meat. I think there are better ways to deal with the game flavor.

Hmm, I wonder if it'll taste any good. I've eaten venison before and it's actually pretty nice.

That's not abusive to the meat at all. It doesn't freeze it, and it drains the blood effectively. trust me when I say, this is the common method around here and it works. My former boss is a huge hunter and never used this technique. He hangs his meat to age it. His deer meat tastes like shit. Love the guy, but his deer meat tastes terrible.

And the only way to change that without the ice water soak is to marinate the fuck out of it, which is basically just doing the same thing the ice soak did, a little faster, and completely covering the gamey tast with seasoning. At that point, just eat fucking beef.

I mean, from my experience, the ice soak is the best. Everyone around here swears by it.
