While the yuri subgenre has a dedicated fanbase both in Japan and abroad, one Japanese publisher aims to demystify the genre for both avid readers and newcomers to the scene with a new book called Yuri no Sekai Nyuumon or The Introduction to the World of Yuri.

That's ridiculous...that's like saying, "Introduction to walking".
You don't need intros for watching anime or yuri or yaoi. Just do it. It's not a complex subject matter that requires an introduction.

Actually genre study is a thing, and yuri is a rather unique genre even among lesbian/gay women literature in its tropes and is a very young one at that. This book is a promotion and examination of yuri and its history, and actually there's a lot of interesting academic discussion to be had about it. Sure anyone can "pick up" yuri or yaoi and start enjoying it, but that's not the same as fully understanding the medium and/or the industry. It's also easy to get yuri audiences mixed up with one another if you aren't familiar with it, so it's good to know where to start and where to go for what you're looking for. It's also great for Japanese audiences, who still have a pretty lesbophobic culture, so hopefully it helps draw some people in and even makes some people more accepting.

So it's more like "Introduction to Shounen" or "Intro to Magical Girls" sure, you can learn things on your own over time but you don't know what you don't know, and you can enjoy a medium without truly understanding it or the gears that make it what it is, or how it came into creation.

Yup. The only thing to get published.

Personally I could care less about yuri or yaoi. Let me guess, we can't let others know about our love, so let's make tea together naked and hold eachother closely. Sounds fantastic.

Plus, there is a place for posting book related material and comics, not GD.
