No, I typically have my radio or phone with Bluetooth connected though so I listen to music or podcasts (but not loud) I keep it at a level where I could hear if something went wrong with the engine or tires, etc. It sounds pretty quiet to me. It's not completely quiet, but as quiet as you would expect a car of that cost to sound. It feels like a luxury car but priced like a lower end car. You can see the miles per gallon on the 2017 is way different than the 2016 (the 2016 is rated for more) so I assume the 2017 has more weight or something to dampen the sound a bit more than the 2016.

actually.. the reason why most popular sedan cars got an MPG drop for 2017 is because of the new standard set by EPA

this will be the new standard for all cars from now on

this is why you see 2016 Mazda 3 4 dr sedan had 30/41 mpg

but for 2017.. same Mazda 3 4dr sedan has 27/36 mpg ?

KBB also stated it in their review

"Note: Due to changes in EPA testing to more effectively reflect real-world conditions, some 2017 models show slightly lower fuel-economy scores than their 2016 versions."
