I don't know but in my observation, they talk about yaoi manga/animes these days...

And it's not only the girls, including straight men.

I know because I know some of them lol

Feel bad for lolis and yaois, good thing to know they have a place for them in the society = =

Got nothing against the yuri and yaoi genre tho I prefer not to read them :)

Well that's cool, I love yuri in general even though I'm a guy

You're a guy, that's why.
Quite understandable, no judgment there.

I read yaoi cuz it's the only thing I got

Everything else is opposite sex couples hooking up, and same sex couples almost never happen outside of BL in anime/manga.

Middle schoolers only care about fitting in, so they tend to watch whatever is popular at the time.

On-point, my friend.

Whatever trends, they go for it.
Just like Pokemon Go, unfortunately.

I miss PoGo, I used to sit at the park in my town because it always had 3 lures and talk to all sorts of people like those in the military, parents who brought their kids, guys who just want to be the best at everything, people who were going with their girlfriend/boyfriend, etc. plus it was hilarious to see people's reactions when they took a gym but saw it get taken over because I put a 10 cp magikarp right when it fell, or to put my favorite Blastoise in the gym when nobody else had one.

Those days are now long gone.

But there were so many bandwagon pokemon fans. (no offense)
They considered themselves as avid fans because they're playing Pokemon Go.
Others have been waiting for this release, like myself. I've been playing the emulator type years ago.
So it kinda suck when everyone was talking how they're like real fans and all because it was trending and all.

But nothing against Pokemon because I still play the "old school" version,
I was cool with Pokemon Go but everyone was buzzing about it so I just let it go.

Well I started in middle school watching all the mainstream shonens like Naruto, Fairy Tail, Hunter x Hunter, etc. and Attack on Titan and SAO (I loved em all except SAO)

What you didn't like SAO? I thought it was awesome except I have no love towards GGO idk why they thought it was a good idea to put guns with swords

A friend of mine played Pokemon Go for a little while. He stopped because it was a time sink and ate through his bandwidth. He definitely jumped on because it was the cool thing, though he never went around proclaiming he was an avid Pokemon fan.

Not at all. I liked the premise and all, and I had pretty high expectations for it, but even the first season just wasn't put together well. I think the things that really bothered me at the time were the time skips and the lack of focus on the side characters. And the second season was worse.

I guess I just have a certain biased view towards it because it was the first anime I watched but I mean I'm not at all a critic so I don't mind the things that bothered you

My guess is that Netflix is the gateway to anime for kids these days, so whatever is on there is probably what they are watching.
Netflix is the biggest source of anime for the average non-anime household. Plenty of parents get Netflix and let their kid get on there too. For anyone who
doesn't know about anime, Netflix may be the first place they see it, especially with families switching from cable to Netflix.
