I feel like people with fast internet don't know how privileged they are when they can stream videos in 1080p where I have to watch videos in 360p, it takes me 18 hours to download 9 GB. Plus it's not like I can change to a faster provider because my ISP has a monopoly over my area and won't add high speed internet unless it makes them money.

My internet speed is literally too slow to finish a speed test.

But anyways, does anyone else have slow internet? Because I feel like I'm living in the stone age while everyone else is living in modern society, and since I game a lot and I have to wait 20 hours per 10 GB for downloading games, I pretty much hate my ISP.

Netflix streaming wouldn't look good on a TV because 360p on a large screen looks like a huge blob of barely recognizable pixels.

For stuff like surfing the net it's ok, but when I decide to play online games It's incredibly slow.

Yep I remember using dial up over phone lines.

- Can't download video (they aren't 360p, not even 240p... it's more like video clips such as anime OP/ED themes than full videos like actual episodes)

- Well, I COULD haved download video except the tiny hard disks at the time fills up after ONE VIDEO

I did used to have a 5Mbps crappy DSL before I switched to cable so yeah, know what that's like

I used to have dial-up until I switched to DSL, but I didn't try gaming and youtube wasn't a thing at the time.

Try downloading a 27 gb game with 150 kbps internet, it's not fun.

If the costs are almost the same, you might want to just buy the physical discs. There is one good thing about discs, and that's they don't have online DRM... If you lose your Steam online account with your gazillion games you're kinda hosed.

it's a joke to see that South Korea has a faster internet speed than the USA.. for a cheaper price too!!

some of the providers recently increased teh DATA CAP to avoid regulation

so i think my data cap jumped from 350GB to 1TB a month now

but the speed is still the same + the monthly fee for the service went up 2x!! in one year

I use in my home
Fiber-optics / FTTH (Fiber to the home) 光ファイバー
with a max speed of 100 or 200 Mbps (or 1 Gbps for the au Hikari service).

In my phone
Many ISPs now offer Wimax or similar mobile solutions, as do mobile companies like Softbank and Docomo. These aren't related to NTT or anything as you aren't setting up a physical line anywhere, so you're only dealing with the ISP or mobile provider.

And I think Yes because of this I can move and lurk in the world of internet such a crunchyroll

Unfortunately I don't live in Japan, here in 'murica an ISP won't do anything for you unless it makes them money.

So they probably won't add highspeed internet in my area unless there's a buck to be made in doing so.

Not entirely true. A lot of games require online connectivity or registration to run. Spore was notorious for this, as it was one of the first games to require you to register your installation/computer with their servers. If my memory serves, you only got 3 installations (yes, reinstalling or installing after a format counted) before you had to contact their customer support. (On a totally unrelated note, Spore's disc makes a great tea coaster.)

People complained a lot about it at the time, but the practice hasn't really gone away. I'd have to dig around, but I think Valve/Steam did state at some point (years ago) that if they ever close down they'll remove DRM so that you can back up your game data and run it without Steam access. Granted, you're going to be frantically trying to download and store terabytes of information at the same time everyone else would be.

Anyway, I remember dial-up. Ugh, would take forever to download a 2 megabyte file, and if someone picked up the phone while you were at 95%? Have fun starting all over again. The switch to DSL was pure bliss, even if the speed back then pales in comparison to now.

...granted that I'll never play most of the stuff on my Steam account. Or GOG account. Or EA account. Or Ubisoft account. Or a whole bunch of other accounts that I've even forgotten the names of.

I while back we had the worst, slowest internet ever called Clear Spot. But thankfully we got a new provider and we have really good internet! Good bye, lag!
