So, does anyone get tired or down right annoyed by the people constantly bashing overused clichés and tropes like they're better than everyone else? It can go from anime and manga to novels and films. Are you someone who love or likes clichés but is afraid to let others know? What do you think?

My Turn:

This is why I want the impossible to happen. I WANT A BORDERLINE IN MY FICTION!!!

Enjoy!!!

I think there is a way to use cliches well and a way to use them badly. When they are used badly, they deserve to be bashed...

The critics are somewhat hypocritical since tropes are inescapable

If they liked something then they merely found the trope likeable

The difference isn't in the existence of tropes but the presentation of them

I guess so. Give me an example of a poorly used cliché.

I agree. As long as I was entertained I'm pretty satisfied. I also get annoyed when people try to simplify the plot to prove their point, anyone can do practically do that with everything.

What I find annoying is when you read half baked reviews that accuse a work of being, "cliche with overused tropes" and you think to yourself, "No, I watched that very same anime and no they did no such thing."

Because to those superficial idiots (trolls) who write those reviews the fact that the characters speak Japanese is a fckin cliche to them.

Maybe I'm just easily entertained, but it doesn't bother me. If I like the theme, and the quality is decent I will happily binge a super generic anime. Same thing with TV shows and books. I enjoyed some terrible fantasy novels as a kid. I've gone back and read a few. I know how terrible they are now... but I still like them.

I definitely get tired of the hate they receive, I think people massively underrate how difficult drawing manga is. Especially when so much of it has to be altered and tweaked week by week in order to correct course for the popularity based systems most publishers use.

Some cliches are great, on one hand a more cliche driven hero like Naruto gives the author a simple center where they can focus more complicated and creative ideas around. On the other hand, stacking cliches on cliches in order to make the recipe shonen manga is almost demeaning for readers, I don't mind a simple scene I have seen a thousand times if you can find a way to take it and make it your own. Think spiderman, kissing in the rain has been around since love stories, but have you ever seen an upside down kiss and thought of anything but that scene? Cliches are not a bad thing.

so true, theirs reason they are cliches its because it happens to be a popular subject that a lot of people like and generally make for good story's or whatever.
