I wasn't expecting much here, and im glad i kept my expectations low, but Lancer was cool, good to see bro-lancer again, even if he goes by caster now. Haha, Shinji died again, glad i watched it for that bit.

seeing shinji like that was worth it

Plus a cute animal mascot because obviously every show needs one these days.

I actually found it kind of creepy. It's face was too human-like to me to be cute.

Its whole design is a weird 80s throwback. It appears to be Plot Relevant in the game too just to make things worse. -.-

I was pleasantly surprised by this special. Main character is unobtrusive, Mash / Shielder is adorable (and badass when needed), and Lancer as a Caster is worth the whole thing. ... Only down side is that this is all there is. Maybe another one later?

That was some nice dumb fun, once you get past the exposition dump in the first 20 minutes.

So the only way Lancer can escape being the butt monkey is by being summoned as another class. He definitely made that special worth watching.

I almost rage quit during the exposition dump. It's almost like it looked at a list of every dumb way to introduce plot elements, and said 'time to use all of them!" And after all that information, the plot still barely makes sense.

Beyond that it was enjoyable watching action figures throw different colored light beams at each other. Maybe it's supposed to mean more if you know the games, because it seemed immediately forgettable to me.

The one character I feel for is Olga... that was a horrible cruel slow death, honestly they could of kept her alive she had potential back story.

Rant incoming.

*DISCLAIMER: If you are offended by immature language, this is your warning, I use it, though not excessively.

*Also, SPOILERS, obviously.

I'll get out of the way that I haven't played the games. I just watch the anime. I was okay with Stay Night. I enjoyed Zero, mostly thanks to Alexander the Great.

But this... I mean, Fate has historically not had a great track record for creating well-developed characters with wide emotional ranges and intelligent actions, but there at least appeared to be the intent.

The male "protagonist" of the pilot/movie/whatever, and I place that word in quotes because the guy doesn't DO a damned thing the entire time, so it's not like he's the main action-driver, is about as intelligent and emotive as a zombie. Actually, less so, because zombies have an emotional attachment to other people's brains and entrails. Not only do we start off with him waking up in the middle of the damn floor like some kind of idiot, he somehow manages to know absolutely nothing, which would be a fine way to introduce thge audience to all the concepts in the show except that most such characters actually have some time before this devoted to showing how they're normal, capable individuals like you or I and are being thrust into a situation of uncertainty. But instead, we have Random Dude A waking up in Somewhere, meeting the weakest female character I have seen in years.

Main female character: I'll sum this up with, "N..n...notice me, zombie-senpai!" and "omg, I'm so worthless! I won't even tell you my NAME cause I'm so worthless I may as well not even have one!! Even my retarded bosses think I'm worthless, and they're legally retarded! At least you still love me, Pointless Catrabbit."

Then we have Retard Boss #1, Miss "OMG WOULD YOU BELIEVE HOW ANGRY I AM ALL THE TIME" woman who loses her intelligence at a rate equal to her screen time. By the end she's just angry boobs squeeling the dumbest kind of "omg, I'm so oblivious to what's going on, obviously the man standing in the pool of power behind the unstoppable enemy is my friend, who I'm totally sexual for despite him looking like a necrotic clown."

Retard Boss #2, "Huh? Why are you in this room, Zombie Protagonist? Aren't you supposed to be in the main hall getting boobslapped by Retard Boss 1? Oh, me? Screw work, I'm a DOCTOR! I don't actually DO anything in this place in which we apparently wage war on the past. Here, have some chips and sit on my dong because oh yeah I'm obviously trying to get you out of your pants, because I'm a homosexual necrophiliac and your zombie eyes are giving me the look."

(Note: It's totally cool if RB2 is gay; I just dislike that the gay character is also worthless and lazy apparently)

Later in the episode:

Weakass female: "Zombie-senpai, I'm important now, please notice me!"

Mindless Boob female: "Don't notice her, she only just now figured out how to be useful, you wouldn't want it going to her head!"

Weakass female: "Sigh... you're right.."

Zombie Protagonist: "uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh."

Totally-Not-At-All-Obvious-Necrotic-Clown-Villain: "BWA HAHAHAHA, I AM THE YEAR 2016, AND MY HATE FOR HUMANITY HAS MADE ME POWERFUL! LISTEN TO MY ?REASONS? WHICH are mostly just pointless emo drivel about how humans are, like... useless? and... they should all die, ya'know? Someone please cut me, I'm afraid to do it myself."

Simply put, this entire pilot and possibly the entire Grand Order idea seems to have been made with the express purpose of showing an Evil Sabre for fans to drool over. And don't get me wrong, her visual design was pretty cool. The whole "omg sabre is evil thing" was pants-fillingly ridiculous in the first place, but since they shoe-horned it in, at least it wasn't terrible....

OH WAIT, it was terrible.

Yeah, so Weakass Female has Super Magic Shield, obviously the only way this fight can play out is for Sabre to mindlessly keep blasting at it with DARRRRRRK MAAAAGIIIIIIIC, because the studio already spent its animation budget on Mindless Boob Female. Anyway, Weakass Female manages to fend it off BY THE POWER OF LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP and mostly from Zombie Protagonist's ability to walk through a non-stop stream of lethal dark energy to get behind the shield with her.

Hold up. You all saw that, right?

Zombie Protatgonist, standing with MBF a good 50 meters away watches a never-ending stream of what the Fate series has taught us repeatedly to be THE MOST DEADLY THING EVER, Sabre's Noble Phantasm. And this isn't just any NP, this is EVIL SABRE NOBLE PHANTASM.

And what is Zombie Protagonist's master plan to save the day?

Walk. Through. It. As if it weren't there.

Yes, the most powerful attacks we ever see, and he waltzes through with the power of Camera Angle to lend Emo-Waifu a hand. And what's the big show-stoppingly amazing powerboost? Ghost Castle Wall. Brilliant. Why not just display the words "404 Error: Dark Energy Not Found" or something. Anyway, this magically directs all of evil sabre's energy back at her for the miraculous win, Sabre leaves with retarded comments that have no meaning, The day is won!! Except for obvious villain clown boss, but we know how that worked out.

Sorry for the rant; had to get it out of my system. Thanks for reading. Please let me know how wrong I am, or why everything is solved if I would just play the game, and we can continue bashing this piece of junk anime!

So I take it that you liked it?

I liked the parts with Caster since he was the only character that seemed to know what's up, what to do, how to do it, and was the one other good character from Stay Night UBW (Archer being the other good one).

Though I had understood Fate GO's special to take place after the end of Zero's grail war.

I can agree that info dump in the beginning was dumb, and quite honestly I don't remember what they were talking about. All I know is that they went to the past to fix the future.

It sure can tell a story. Anything can tell a story. But:
- It won't be as profound and deep as stuff in FSN, Tsukihime, etc.
- It won't have interesting, complex well written and deep protagonist.
- It won't have well developed cast of characters around protagonist since mobage needs to bloat the cast with more and more waifus.

FGO will be good popcorn story to satisfy the otaku - it has fanservice, it has fights, it has harem comedy nonsense and it has MC that has no personality.
But it will never be a good Nasuverse story, let alone GOOD STORY.

Which is why FSN has hours upon hours of sex scenes, has Illya, Rin, Sakura, and Saber as waifus for Shiro.

I didn't like the fight scenes much, personally. The visuals, character designs and (relatively) fluid animation are nice but the actual choreography was bland and demeaned the fighter's intelligence, imo.

I really hope they find a way to make the main characters interesting.

The animation was decent, and I agree about the bland fight scenes. Characters also seem likable enough, although Mash's use of senpai is going to irritate me. I really hope she is fleshed out beyond that. Granted, I haven't played the game itself since it quit working through Bluestacks, but I'll stick with this. I was entertained enough by familiar faces to want to see where it goes.

Wait what? I don't recall there being 'hours upon hours of sex scenes' or Ilya even being considered as a love interest for Shirou in the VN (in hollow/ataraxia maybe.)

Came for the servants, stayed for the servants. The excuse for a main plot is pathetic by Type-Moons usual' standards. Male lead is a generic self-insert. Female lead is (admittedly very appealing) waifu-bait. About what I expected from a mobile game adaptation.

On the other hand, the servants more then made up for that. Caster Cu in particular was as brotastic as ever, and even got in another rematch with Archer.

So yeah, great for people who want to see more of their favorite servants being awesome, but otherwise doesn't have much going for it.

LOL thanks for that pretty much sums up how I feel.

After having just finished Zero and UBW I was looking for some more great stuff but this...this...wow just some really weak sauce here. Bleh That main character, sheesh I thought Shirou from the original was bland and boring but this guy (he was so weak I can't remember his name) he could give that Shirou lessons. And pink hair girl, what a disappointment, I first saw her statue and thought she had great visuals but the animated version just killed that. And demi-servant? Again they can't follow their own Master/Servant rules and make up some new BS (I must have missed how all the Servants were still around with no Masters and NO humans to provide any mana). I was almost laughing when they showed her crushed by that 20 ton piece of debris and she's still talking and moving. Dark Saber was even more boring than regular Saber, Lancer as Caster...meh. I did kinda like that Medusa chick or whatever she was. And Olga aka white hair Rin, why create a character just to give her a horrible death which the heroes watch slowly...slowly happen and do nothing. I can't even comment on how stupid the main villain looks, I'm assuming he hates humanity because everyone he met must of made fun of his fashion sense. Oh well maybe this will get a reboot like the original that will be a million times better.

Has any sort of tv show or continuation been confirmed for this? I'd totally watch more. It was shallow, but it was comfy.

As a plus, it won't send Chris Hansen knocking on my door like Prisma Illya.
