Right so this is going to be a long post about how I tried to use the new app.

Ok so here is the nice new home screen.
Right lets take a look at some shows, if only I could actually tell what shows they are.
I mean for quite a few it's fairly obvious as it's written on the artwork but for others it's hard to tell. What is this one?

Ah so it's Flip Flappers, right then well hands up can anyone tell me what episodes I've watched of this show?

Thats right I've only seen episode 1 and accidentally watched a very short part of episode 5 when I was on another device. It's a shame you can't tell what you've actually watched from this interface.

Alright well lets try out one of the new features, lets "Pin episodes to the top shelf to quickly add to your queue"... Right so how do I do that? No really I've not yet worked out how to use that new feature.

Onwards, to the queue. Well it's certainly more... minimal. No history so I can see what I've been watching, but I guess if the series pages show information like whether I've watched an episode or not it'll be ok... Except it doesn't, the queue page has no functionality at all, all it does is let you play the episode you are currently up to.

How about we remove an item from the queue, nope can't do it from the queue page.

Oh look there's a new episode of Poco's Udon World coming out, I wonder what day/time it's out or maybe it will tell me how long until it is released. Clicking on it does nothing... absolutely nothing.

Alright, back to the Home page, I'll find it on there and check it on the episode list. At-least the artwork for this show is fairly easy to find.

Here it is finally the list of episodes, now I'll find out how long I have to wait. Nope, clicking on the unreleased episode does nothing at all.
Actually where have all the dates gone, there doesn't seem to be any way of telling when any of the episodes were released or will be released.

Well while I'm waiting I'll take a look at the show information by clicking on the "More Info" button, that works fine.

Lets come off that page... whoah wait a second the only button shown on the page is a "Remove from Queue" button, that's a pretty poor design. Why is that button on both that page and the main page, and even worse you'd better not click too fast otherwise you'll end up accidentally removing the show from your queue. Not the most major issue but not really great either. Surely a close button would be more sensible on the more info page.

So now that the queue has no features at all, I guess it's onto the Browse section. My mission is to take a look at what shows I missed from last season.

Wait there's no way of browsing by season... ok so I guess I'll have to abort that mission then and just do that on my iPhone or computer. Also how do I order the list A-Z, I assume it's currently ordered by the latest episode the be released or maybe it's popularity, I'm not really too sure. However this page does have one major feature over the Home page... it shows you the name of the shows.

Also unlike the queue page clicking on a show brings up the list of episodes, it's a shame that it just gives episode information by default and you have to click the "More Info" button to find out about the show. You would have thought that the show information would be one of the first things you would see, but I guess this isn't too terrible.

Now on to the Search page, well it works fine. Pretty much as expected it's just a basic text search but that's fine. Selecting a show takes you to the show page which is fine. Albeit it would be nice if you could use filters.

Finally we have the Settings page, where we have the new theme option. Personally I prefer midnight mode to the normal mode.
This all seems to work ok which is nice.

Here though we have a few almost completely useless buttons. The Support, Terms of Service and Privacy Policy buttons take you to an almost empty page telling you to go visit the website. I guess almost nobody is actually going to bother clicking those buttons so it probably doesn't matter.

Ok so auto play is enabled... I think, that button is a bit ambiguous but I'll give it a pass.

With auto play enabled lets watch a show... a short time later and it's nearing the end of the show. Auto play appears to be working correctly, now if only it didn't cover over the subtitles of the show I'm watching... I guess I'll just turn that feature off then.

Why wasn't that shown at the top of the screen, or reduce the video size so you can still view all of the video when the bottom banner appears.

p.s. What does "CONTINUE WATCHING: Bookmark where you left off on any device and continue playing from your TV with any of your queued series." mean, is that just remembering where you last got to in an episode which isn't exactly a new feature. I can't find any way to add/remove bookmarks?

So Overall, it is a lot more difficult to use, removes a lot of functionality and makes it harder to find content. What a wonderful update.

And for Android TV??

The Android Tv app was updated a few days ago...

The only change I noticed, was the start screen...

Yes I noticed that in fact but that was the only thing.

I have to say I preferred the old queue where when I clicked on a show I got a list of the episodes instead of watching whatever episode it is currently on. I'm not the only one who uses the apple TV so when someone watches something that I'm farther along in I can't easily go to the episode that I was on from the queue.

The Android TV update was primarily a crash fix for devices which already received an Android N update. It didn't add or remove any functionality.

Ok then.
Too bad it could be a little more user friendly at least at the home page.

I agree with AschtheBloody3's observation - being unable to see and select other episodes from within the Queue really weakens the Crunchyroll Apple TV app's Queue feature. Sometimes I want to go back and re-watch previous episodes, but now I cannot without leaving the Queue, it's very frustrating and inconvenient.

In the Crunchyroll app for Roku, clicking on a show in the Queue immediately takes you to a screen that gives you a choice of "Play," "View Show" (list of episodes), or "Remove" (from queue). I really hope this feature is added to Crunchyroll's Apple TV app.

And to put this idea on the table: Are major revisions of the Crunchyroll app tested by actual users before they are released? I think the inability to view episodes in the Queue would have been identified very early on as a crucial missing feature.

Why is it the only reply from CR is about a post for AndroidTV and not what this post is about?

I was about to write up something similar to Alfihar's post but now I don't have to... agree totally... Great Post Alfihar

this release seems like a 1/2 baked update to be in compliance with Apple and not a useful update that helps a user watch videos. It actually makes it harder to figure out if you watched anything.

This assessment is about how i feel about the new app. Thank you for saving me the time from having to create a post like this myself.

Shows like Toradora that have both subbed and dubbed, the default is dubbed. I keep it in my queue so I can replay an episode as it strikes my fancy. Now to get a subbed version of a middle episode, I have to search for it in browse mode. FIX IT NOW!!! Luckily for my sanity most of my viewing is on browser or iOS app, but this is a step backward

Posted in the other old AppleTV thread, but reposting here for the CR staff to hopefully see...

Yay... New appleTV app.

However, the new app Queue is very broken.

As others have reported, from the Queue there is no way to do anything aside from watching the currently available episode. This is terrible for users.

You can't get show info or watch other episodes of that show. To do that I would need to browse or search for the show - which takes a bunch of extra clicks and searching and whatnot - this is dumb because the show is right there in my queue, but I can't access any of the show info.

This stuff (a submenu to get info, remove from queue, or see all episodes) is in the iPhone app - why not in the tvOS app?

I hope this is a quickly fixable glitch and not something that will take months/years to update.

The new queue is really horrible. I often scan my queue for new shows to start and being able to browse the episode list is very important.

I actually like the cleaner look, but I can understand some people wanted to see titles. Why can't this be an option?

Please please please give some love to the queue page! People have already pointed out the issues, and here are others:

1. if i've watched the last available episode then please let me know! change the icon to "coming soon", give a next episode release date, or just add a "new episode available" on shows that have it, similar to hulu. Giving NO INFORMATION whatever can't be the solution here. To make it worse, some episodes do switch to that black icon and some don't, why can't it just be consistent.
2. from the queue page it should be simple and obvious how to get to the episode list, instead of just starting off at the last spot.

I CR maintains a lot of different apps and just keeping them all working might take up a lot of time, but a couple of these things would be very much appreciated.

Any chance for an Amazon Fire TV app? I just got a Fire Stick and would like a dedicated app for it. For now I can use a workaround with Kodi.
