I have learned today, that certain ways people pronounce things or say things irk me. It makes my eye twitch. I am cursed with detailed hearing (audio engineering background), so my ears "zoom in" to sound.

Examples:

When people pronounce "what" and "why" like "huwat" and "huwai".

Or saying "Mazda" as "maezduh", "avocados" like 'ehvokehdoes".

Or "burrito" as "bow-ree-toe"

So, what nuances of speech irk YOU?

There's a certain type of southern accent that I just despise, I don't know what exactly it is, but I'll know it when I hear it.

More specifically, you'll end up pronouncing "Wash" as "wohr-sh."

Other than that I have no issue with accents as long as you're not trying to teach a math or accounting class with a hard to understand accent.

Yes, with words like:

The - "Thee"
Library - "Liberry"

But, I mean, sometimes I have a hard time pronouncing plurals in words like: Tasks, Desks, Costs, Guests, Asks I feel insecure about the hissing noises I have to make for them.

Have you considered using said words to hypnotize others?

I get you. When I lived in the LA-TX area, my toes used to curl when older people would pronounce "Splenda" as "Suhplendurr".

Some areas in the boot pronounce "wash" like that, and "question" as "quarsh-chun".

Other parts of the south seem to say "orange" like "urnj".

"Quarsh-chun" and "urnj" rattle my brain. They seem a lot harder to say than the actual word, and completely deviates from phonetics.

I admit I'm guilty of the plural words you mentioned. I say them lazily, and leave out the consonant between the sss (?).

I say them like this: Tasks = tass, desks = dess, costs = coss, guests = guess, asks = ass

You also reminded me of another word:

When people say "again" like "ay-gain".

Sweet jeezus I would rip my ears out if you talked the way you typed. Coincidentally, I want to rip my eyes out.

Yeah, anything I think sounds wrong annoys me, and there is way too much of that to list. Whenever I start to get irked though, I just tell myself it's not big deal and it's pointless to be mad, which usually works pretty well.

Hehe, I remembered you saying something that could be taken as not liking being quoted and I know how big you are on spelling/punctuation.

Southern accents don't bother me inherently but when people 'tough simple guy' talk with it I roll my eyes. Idk if that counts or makes sense but yea
