Going to see it tonight I am pretty excited because when I was younger Doctor Strange was one of the few I actually read.

Saw it and I personally really enjoyed it. The mystical aspects of the 616 universe was something I was always really interested in when reading Marvel comics throughout my life. The adaptation of Stephen Strange was surprisingly pretty accurate and as a fan of the character I was not disappointed. I had very few criticisms but overall I recommend the film.

I saw it opening weekend and it was okay.

I knew of Strange before the movie but didn't know much about him beyond his tangential appearances in other things. In the movie, I didn't really find myself ever clicking with Strange himself as he never really came across as a likable character I wanted to cheer for. He just felt like a less likable Tony Stark to me except Tony was smart and creative while Strange was just predestined to be good at everything.

I also found the visual effects to be interesting and occasionally amazing (especially in the Hong Kong sequence) but largely feeling without real impact. It just felt like I was watching cool background effects on a green screen behind the actors. It didn't help that the opening action sequence (and the trailers) basically gave away the one big special effect that the movie just kept going back to repeatedly. Once you had seen the rotating/collapsing/folding world trick once it was hard to get excited about seeing it again and again and again.

That said, the story overall was decent enough and it introduced some elements that I'm interested in seeing at play in the MCU at large. Dr. Strange certainly ended up on the weaker end of the MCU movies for me and I'd find it hard to recommend unless someone was either a die hard fan of the character or was an MCU completionist.
