Setting aside your blistering ignorance of Dreamland, yes. Kirby is a "real name", though the only one I can think of right now is Jack Kirby.

According to Wikipedia, it was chosen from a list of names because "Shigeru Miyamoto stated that "Kirby" was chosen because of its similarity to American lawyer John Kirby, who defended Nintendo in the Universal City Studios, Inc. v. Nintendo Co., Ltd. case in 1984 and that the guttural-sounding name contrasted amusingly with the character's cute appearance."

-Shiftily glances at name-
Eyup.
Anyways, I don't think anybody actually names their kid or anything in general because of these meanings. I wouldn't name my kid Natalie because she was "Born on Christmas." I'd name her that because it's a nice name.
On to Kirby's name they named him that in honor of John Kirby who defended Nintendo in some legal case some time ago.

This is the story I heard. Named after the lawyer that got Nintendo a huge win against Universal over Donkey Kong copyright infringement over King Kong.

Kirby's a pretty common surname in the UK and Ireland also, I know of maybe 2 unrelated people sharing the name I think.
