Personally, I like to make things when I'm down. I usually have a few dozen projects at various stages of completion laying around that I I can pick up and start working on, or there's always quick things, like customizing a phone case or doing some simple origami. (The little hopping frogs are always good there, since they're super fast and easy, so you can make a bunch then hop them around out of lots of different materials.)

It doesn't really help you get out and meet others, but maybe can relax you a bit so the getting out thing is easier. Picking up a new skill is also good to meet new friends. I always find learning together forms some strong bonds.

I also like to focus my energy into making things, or cooking, singing, things that I love to do. I'm lucky to have a close family, but I've never really had the friendships that I see in a lot of anime. Even in high school I tended to be more of a loner despite having a few good friends.

That being said, relationships sometimes happen when you least expect it. So keep an open mind, and when you're feeling depressed, hopefully you refocus that negative energy and turn it into something positive by doing something you enjoy.

Yo, I am really in the same boat as you, well I usually am, but this is what I tend to do when I really am sad. This advice is really not something I would consider sound or healthy, so I really do feel bad about giving it, but when I feel really down I simply cut out anything that stresses me. I am young, eighteen years old and am in school, if I really am feeling down, I will discontinue it for a bit and do something that makes me happy, and probably will continue this trend as an adult and may get fired for it lol. I already said this advice may not exactly be healthy, but it really works for me.

Granted, not everyone has something that just "makes them happy." As others suggested, cooking is something for me, I love cooking, anime obviously should help if you're here, maybe games, or just talking to someone you consider a buddy.

Just think about what makes you happy and what makes you sad, and try to take out as many things that make you sad as you can.

Also, your like in April is not something that is going to help you depression, friend.

If you don't get much exercise find some form of physical exertion that you can enjoy on a regular basis. Running, swimming, team sports or just walking. Being active is healthy for you both physically and mentally - the endorphins produced by being active are natural anti-depressants.

If you are normally an inactive person doing a few extra hours of physical activity a week should brighten your mood and set you on the path to being happy.

Local clubs and shops with people with similar hobbies are good places to start. Are there any anime clubs in your area?

Cats are depressing, sleeping all day and being annoying when they're hungry, at least dogs seem to care about people.

As for me, the two things that keep me happy, is working out (or doing sports) and expressing my creativity. I noticed that the more I practice those two things, the more I'm happy in general. And investing yourself in the community surrounding your interests will also help you meet people.

But don't forget that happiness comes from within yourself, don't expect getting it from having more friends around you.
I've never had any anime-like relationship either, I really wish that it would be possible, but I don't think it does.

start from the beginning.

begin to look at your lifestyle and what you can change to improve that. healthy body helps create a healthy mind.
eat healthily, drink plenty of water, sleep at correct times and exercise.
get in the routine of doing that.
you'll feel better in the mornings and find your energy doesn't deplete easily.

once you start to realise the benefits of that it'll cascade into other aspects for motivation.

notice the tiny things in life that you've often ignore; the colour of the sky in the morning, the smell of the air around you, how amazing the food you're having tastes. smile and find the happiness in them. laugh at the stupid things; a pigeon walking down the road, a kid going wild and screaming, the way a person walks.

most importantly, learn to love yourself. treat yourself, don't be afraid to be alone because you are your own best friend.
go to a place and have dinner alone or go and watch a movie you've wanted to by yourself. it's completely fine to enjoy your own company like that. be selfish, the only concentration should be you.

life begins when you step out of your comfort zone.

good luck and stay happy.

When things are getting a bit turbulent I try to find a couple of things to look forward too in the future. Like book a holiday or make some plans. look forward to a videogame release etc etc.

I got some advice from a workmate once that went along of the lines of just trying to find something in your life thats positive (doesnt matter how small) and kinda build from there. Kinda like opening a metaphorical window just a little bit.
