I've never had one and tbh I prefer to keep my room a good million degrees anyway.

I don't use the ceiling fan. I use an electric fan, and only at night to keep it cold enough so that I can sleep.

I have that irrational fear that ceiling fans are going to fly off and slaughter everything in the room at any moment so I resolved to just not have any.

I tend to use mine only during the warmest days. There's usually a few weeks during summer when they are on pretty constantly, but other than that, they are usually off, and having them on would feel like a waste of electricity.

I use it all year long. Most ceiling fans have a switch to reverse directions for winter/summer use. The fan should usually spin clockwise in the winter so that the paddles force the warm air at the ceiling out and down. Use low speed.

This.

I NEED my ceiling fan on medium or high to sleep though. The noise is the best lullaby

Mine is on all year, when I am home. After a few months of having it on to keep the room cool, I found myself unnerved by the silence when I decided to turn it off.

In the summer, 24/7, unless I'm not home.
But when it starts to get cold, I only use it during the day and on low.

I haven't got a ceiling fan. I do have a fan that I keep for emergencies. It can blow hot or cold. I just leave windows open a lot in some of spring, all of summer and some of autumn.
