I often do the un original ideas such as; Chocolate, nuts, lollies and alcohol. You usually cant go wrong with those. But i do sometimes just do gift cards or money but usually not.
I mean for kids i buy lollies and toys and dvds. Maybe clothes and girly stuff like beauty related stuff. For adults more chocolate, nuts, booze but i will sometimes buy like perfume or after shave, my youngest bro and sis an into health stuff so sometimes i'll buy them health related products like those engery bars and that sort of stuff that you get at health food stores and those things that people that go to the gym like to take.
My dad loves music but he has all music so i will sometimes buy him music related stuff such as framed pictures or like fridge magnets or key chains or mugs or etc of bands/singers.
I got him a Marilyn Monroe framed picture once. Or sometimes i will buy sports related stuff like a mug or framed picture or hat or something for the sports team that they support.

I've bought people scratchie ticket packs before lol..

Also sometimes for my mum or my sister i will by a voucher for those pampering massages places.

My mum likes antiques. Unfortunately i cant afford that sort of things as much as i'd like.

For the young and old alike, drones with cameras seem to be the new in thing...
The prices vary from small to large depending on size and quality.
Planning on buying one for someone.

Of course, spa or bath sets seem to always make for good gifts...

For me it seems the best Christmas gifts are ones you know they have wanted or could utilize and enjoy.

I listen to what they say they want, and watch what items they oogle at all year, so when the time comes I'll know what to get or what would be of their interest.

Some people are simple to shop for, others not so much.
