The Electoral College in theory was a good idea to help make sure small states aren't ignored during presidential elections. However, in practice it just results in a handful of states deciding the president for everyone on their own.

Throughout the TV coverage, it was "We've just received the numbers from Delaware, but who cares, Virginia is one of our eight states still undecided at this point!" Might as well put eight stars on the flag.

Maine still had the rule of splitting its votes by district, and gave Hillary 3 and Trump 1, and was seen as the "shakeup" in the race for not being seen as "all red or "all" blue.
Think we need a few more shakeups like that, would make for a race that more closely resembles the popular vote.

Bernie is looking pretty decrepit these days. I don't know if they can keep him from decaying for 4 more years.

If he's still alive in 4 years, I hope he doesn't run again. Too many blind socialists who think socialism will be good for our country when it's been proven numerous times to not work in the long run. It works for a while, then the nation runs out of money because that's what inevitably happens. Not to mention, all these socialists do is scream "unfairness" when they want these people who have worked their butt off to pay for their free stuff. Get the hell out of here.

How is the electoral a gift? Provided you can get the to vote the same way, all you would need is ten states to win the election? How is that fair? Admittedly, I don't see Texas and New York voting the same way anytime in the near future, but if you can secure ten states, in theory, the other forty are irrelevant.

The only way to make the electoral college fair is to have the electors proportional to the vote, as opposed to the winner take all system that makes it, unless you vote your state color, your vote doesn't count.

In my state, the countryside, the red voting areas, are told they have to pay taxes for the infrastructure that supports the major city in the state. it makes sense. However, these red areas are subsidizing the city and the city does everything it can to vote blue. There would simply be fewer blue city urban votes if not for the masses of rural red votes. 1:1 voting was known to be bad, and that's why we don't have a Direct Democracy.

The EC was there originally to block mob rule, filtering it through the electorates. The EC is now there to mitigate the extremes of the liberal urban mob rule. My only complaint is it is makes my Presidential vote pointless here in MA. But we're the bluest state in the country. California has more Republicans in its own House than we do. if my state is 55% or 100% blue, we still only give 11 Electoral Votes, thus curbing the excess of our extremism here.

Same way they can 'call' elections when only 1% of the precincts are reporting. While not a true head count, they can take a fairly good guess. If the electors are dished out purely proportionally the large urban centers would dictate national policy only. It is not a solution. If you're not in an urban area, you essentially don't count. The countryside that makes the urban areas possible will go the way of the Roman Citizen Farmer, which started their descent to collapse.

So you're saying that the majority should be ruled by a minority? I'm all for EQUAL representation, not disproportionate. I understand not wanting a tyranny of the majority, but a tyranny of the minority seems illogical to me. It's either the people with the fewest people still get a voice, or if you don't live in a state that votes your color your voice doesn't matter.

I recognize that there is no perfect system, but stop trying to pretend that the electoral college is somehow some sort of super system, when in reality they way that it's executed is sort of bollocks.

Honestly, if we're going to suggest reforms to the way presidential elections in the US are run I would think setting up preferential list voting throughout the country would be the one to put the most emphasis on. That way if a Republican wasn't particularly fond of Trump they wouldn't have had to worry that they'd hand the election to Clinton by voting for Johnson at the top of their list instead. Likewise, a Democrat who dislikes Hillary Clinton could've felt safe voting for Jill Stein (or maybe even writing in Bernie Sanders) first and putting Clinton lower on their list (but above Trump).

Bernie is such a tool. During his campaign he spoke shit about Hillary but as soon as he lost he told his followers to vote for Hillary. What a disgusting old man.
