How important does everyone think boycotting is? In a world where money reigns, is there any other way to speak to producers and service providers?

On a very slightly related note:

I just created this group who are boycotting CR subscriptions until concerns are addressed. I'd love to welcome anyone interested:

You know what makes protests like boycotts more effective? Explicitly stating the 'concerns' that you feel need addressed. Until then you seem like a kid throwing a tantrum. This thread really doesn't state what these concerns are, neither does the group you have created. Or are you just looking to form a protest club?

So I'm not going to boycott the site over one minor instance of mod misconduct. I wouldn't go as far as to call it mod abuse as it wasn't anything as severe as a permaban or account delition. More just letting their personal greif over an election override their better judgement. Slot of people on all sides are doing that this week.

And someone who does that is not fit to be in a position of authority, this should be obvious.

That said having not really been aware of this until now I think there is also a concern that the community should not simply go on a "witch hunt" because someone claimed a mod behaved in a prejudiced manner. That would be a little hypocritical, after all. But then again as far as I can tell the userbase for this site has absolutely no recourse against mod abuse other than complaining and hoping the admins agree.

I have been an admin on a number of gaming sites over the years. If an admin is doing their job properly you will never know who they are. They keep the site working smoothly and the community active behind the scenes. There are things admins can do like selectively restricting a mods 'permissions' on site much the same way a mod can ban member permissions. For example: revoking a mod's ability to ban for awhile ect... CR does need a real member greviance policy alas that would need to be a completely different thread.

But I agree there is no need for a 'witch hunt'. If one was to boycott it would be best saved for some issue you could actually get a groundswell of support for. This just doesn't rise to that level.

The things I've asked for have been submitted in tickets and the help forums, from long ago and up until recently.

I currently feel like people should be able to express grievances they feel in the forum I have provided. Currently, the group will not be taken very seriously, regardless. So, at this time, no I don't think making a list of concerns is helpful.

Why? No one is going to take them seriously, yet, anyway. By limiting the concerns, I may be missing something other users have noticed as problematic. By listing concerns this prematurely, I may list more than actually needs to be addressed.

So, no. For now, I feel that this is enough. And, at some point, I will organize a formal draft of concerns that need to be addressed, allowing the community to shape that, as well.

If you feel that is childish or pointless or not productive, you are free to feel that way. However, it is something I gave thought.

CR has a lot of subscribers, lots. I think ANN hinted at over 200K+ a few months ago. Boycott? Really? Whatever....have fun... sometimes an interesting read; sometimes not. Do count me out.

I'll be sending a reply in PM, as it's kind of off-topic for this thread.

The only real problem I ever had with CR is the crappy video player/CDN that caused my videos to stutter and buffer like crazy but I haven't seen that happen in probably more than a year now. No reason to boycott now.
