The advice section didn't help so here's what's up

I tried typing "testing" and this shows up. I literally cannot change it to hiragana and using control panel to reinstall or change language keyboards didn't help.

testing=カイトカニミキ

This weird bug also doesn't let me view JP letters in these things lol

edit: fixed the 2nd issue

You might have to change Locale to Japan while you play that game. There are several different encoding schemes for Japanese (eg Shift JIS and Unicode) and turning the Japanese IME on doesn't necessarily add support for them when running Japanese software.

Welp, okay I changed the system locale. I'll have to restart my cpu after I finish up with what I'm doing atm then I'll report back.

Changing locale should work for your games. I remembering doing that for some VNs and other stuff.

Try right clicking on the little "JP" in the taskbar and then a list should pop up between Hiragana, Katakana, and Alphanumeric... I think? I haven't been on W7 in a long time.

chances are, your keyboard setting looks like this:

click on the _カ and choose ひらがな(H)

and unselect the kana option. it should now look like this:

and you'll be able to type in hiragana using romaji.

I think I tried doing that in the gif. It didn't really show me any options.

This stuff used to work on my old cpu, not this one.

the window "Properties for Microsoft ime" looks about right.
maybe somehow Microsoft IME became corrupt..?

i looked and apparently Keyboard input relies on Text Service Framework, which handles the different keyboard languages.
it's possible that somehow, somewhere, one of the services running, which uses the framework, stopped for who-knows-what reason.
a simple reboot *might* fix the problem if that was the case, though no guarantees can be given.

ok. this might be it.

check if ctfmom.exe is running. if not,
windows key+ R, type ctfmon.exe on the dialog box. click ok.

i think i also had a problem with typying and this fixed it.

The Advice section where didn't help?

If it was the CR Advice, Info, Recommendations forum, then not receiving good replies there does not justify starting a new thread in General Discussion. This is not what the General Discussion forum is for.

I've locked this temporarily while checking to see if it just needs to be closed because you already created this thread elsewhere on CR, or if it's new here, but just needs to be moved to our Advice, Info, Recommendations forum.

ETA: Okay, found the prior thread in Advice, Info, Recommendations, which you just bumped yesterday. If you still need assistance, please update your opening post and most recent post there accordingly. /forumtopic-968813/jp-keyboard-broken-wat-do
