Post Reply Is Crunchyroll very strict about making a video about an anime that has some scenes with their watermark?

I recently started doing anime reviews, but a tad different than most other people, and I was curious to know if anyone else has run into an issue that involved a Crunchyroll watermark being in a video. I'm not recording the entire episodes of shows and putting them online, of course, it just happens to be a few scenes here and there that the watermark appears in that are also in the video.

Has anyone heard about how Crunchyroll handles that kind of thing or has experienced it themselves?

There is something called "fair use." Read up on that. It'll help you understand what you can and cannot do, when using the works of others.

CR doesn't own the copyright for the content. they only have the right to distribute it. the copyright belongs to the anime companies that made the series. also, anime companies don't care about fair use. if they find a video with screenshots of an anime they made, they can and will take the video down, fair use or not.

I've moved this over to Site Support / Minor Questions.

It may not be a problem, if it falls within "Fair Use" practice, but to be sure you might want to contact Crunchyroll directly and ask. (/contact)

While CR doesn't own the copyright, they still have an interest in not having their streams redistributed, and probably are required by license to show some kind of diligence in protecting the content.

I do know of one case where where someone used CR videos for their YouTube reviews and those got taken down pretty quickly once CR staff was alerted to it, but he was basically showing whole episodes (and talking over them), and also had the poor judgment to spam links to his "reviews" all over the CR forums.
