Hi everyone! So I was looking at the profile settings and they have a spot for your eastern zodiac animal. I looked it up, and as I was born in 2000 I would be year of the dragon, but according to a site, based on my birthday I would have been born in the chinese year 1999, thus being year of the rabbit. I really know nothing about the zodiac, so I was wondering which one would be appropriate to use.

Thanks in advance,

It's based on the Chinese year according to another site that I looked up

You should use the Chinahighlights website for reference.

I moved this to the Advice, Info, Recommendations forum.

I'd say it doesn't matter much, and if you'd rather be a dragon than a bunny, or the other way around, go for your preference.

Meh, this is about a week old, but sure.

The Chinese Zodiac uses a lunar calendar, meaning it goes by the phases of the moon rather than the Earth revolving around the Sun like the solar calendar everyone uses. This means its first day (in Gregorian terms) varies from year to year. This year it occurred on 8 February, next year will begin on 28 January apparently. From this I'm going to guess that your birthday lies somewhere on the cusp - late January/early February.

As I recall, your birth year is actually the least important part of your Chinese zodiac. There's an animal for each (lunar) month, and each 2-hour stretch of the day also has its own animal. The most important in determining... everything that you can determine from when you were born (whatever that happens to be) is this 2-hour time.

If I can go on an even further tangent, the Sun signs of the Western zodiac don't actually have hard dates either, and vary from year to year. It's better to look up the dates when the Sun moved across zodiac constellations during your specific birth year.
