So there's a second manga adaptation?

Or I guess a first manga adaptation if we're gonna be chronological.

Yea back in the early nineties

Um, are you sure? I'm pretty certain that was just an OVA and I can't seem to find any evidence of another manga based on the story online.

Sweet, that's awesome. I always wanted to enjoy the OVA and it's gorgeous art without the garbage english localisation.

The OVA series was adapted from the novels. The first manga adaption by Chisato Nakamura came out in the early 90's around the same time as the OVA and then a new version of the manga by Hiromu Arakawa (who also did the FMA manga) came out in 2013. The anime uses Arakawa's manga, which is why the character designs look completely different from the OVA version.

does Crunchyroll have them ?

Arslan was a Funimation simulcast, and they don't have the OVA, either. It is also unlikely they will have them, as they were bundled with the manga, For more details, see:

i checked

both OVAs took place within season 1 of the series

they are just extra episodes that have little affect on the story of the series
