I'm an Onii chan goddamit.
Well, since we're talking about it I might as well give my own thoughts.
So huh. That Ao Oni anime. Yeah. I see what they were trying to do with it, but they didn't do it well.
You can make a comedic horror series, and you can have casual disregard for the monster's destruction and killing be the joke. They just did it wrong.
For an example of how to do what they were trying to do right, suppose this were how things played out:
Character 1 bursts the door open and flies into a room after hearing Character 2 scream. A look of horror and disgust builds on their face as they look toward the mangled corpse of Character 2 lying in a pool of blood amid shattered glass, water, and debris from an overturned end table. Character 1 begins to shake. The oni watches in anticipation from behind a slightly opened door on a wardrobe at the back corner of the room, a wry grin on its face as it eagerly awaits a moment of blissful psychological torture for its next victim.
Character 1: Oh, my God! It's terrible!
Character 1 casually shoves Character 2's corpse out of the way, turns the end table back over and begins picking up the debris, mopping up the water with their sleeve.
Character 1: This was a rather rare and valuable vase. What a tragic end for it.
Character 1 walks out of the room, completely ignoring Character 2's corpse. The oni steps out of the wardrobe, visibly frustrated and confused. The oni looks back and forth between the door and Character 2's corpse repeatedly, then scratches its head.
It is a fool's prerogative to utter truths that no one else will speak.
