I read that Gundam The Origin is streaming on Daisuki and was thinking if checking it out. I recently got back into Gundam and was gonna give Universal Century time line a try.

I want to know where Origin falls into the time line. I think its a remake of the original 0079 Gundam series but am not sure.

Would I be able to watch the Origin series in place of the original Gundam series, then go off to the others like 08th MS Team, War in the pocket, Turn a Gundam ect, ect., or would I be lost and confused?

Thanks.

Origin isn't the same as the 79 series. Origin is a prequel that shows what led to the war in the first series and why the main rival (Char Aznable) is the way he is.

So then it would still be the best place to start since it predates the original?

You can hop into Origins no problem. Like the above posted it's a prequel to the original that helps connect the dots the lead up to the One Year War. It focuses on Char but it also shows a lot of characters when they were younger. The last movie should be out soon.

You would still need to watch the original series for the full story. Followed by Zeta which IMO is the best. Char's Counterattack is also a must watch.

08th MS is an awesome show and not connected to timeline
Iron Blood Orphans isn't connected and good also
You can watch the movies sometimes instead of episodes? On a couple timeline shows

IMO, you can watch Gundam the Origin as a standalone and still get a lot out of it, but it's best if you've seen the original series and understand how all of it connects together. And there's more prequel Gundam coming if the announcements are to be believed. Battle of Loum FTW!

Although I don't recall seeing any news mention of it, they are also streaming it on the GundamInfo channel on YouTube:

Oh and the pic reff is very helpful, thanks all.

I'm a bit at odds with watching the original, b/c the animation style, and length. ( though I know it holds up well enough.)
There aren't any remakes/movies of the original? or I suppose skipping would be a bad idea.....

It "helps" to watch and know gundam nomenclature before the branch, but it is not necessary to enjoy and understand the branched part.

There is a series of three compilation movies for the original Gundam. Much better quality animation and voice acting (if you want to watch the dubbed version). The story gets streamlined at the expense of some of the secondary character development, but all the bones are there. Either way, its a good place to start if you want to get the story of the original Gundam in a more compact, nicer looking passage.

Personally I think the Universal Century loses some of its impact if you aren't familiar with the events and characters of the original Gundam. So I would recommend watching the movies if you don't want to sit through the series.

I'm currently watching all of the U.C. stuff as well. I've watched all of the original series and 08th MS team. I was about to start IGLOO but I'm going to watch Origin first. I also play Battle Operation Next on PS3 haha
