So guys my question for you is are you an open otaku , for example do you tell people you're friends with and is it known that you're an otaku.
For me I don't talk about it unless I know the other friend or group of friends are into that too, I'm not exactly hiding it but I don't go around talking to everyone about it if you know what I mean

Yes and no. I am very open to discussing anime however, I only discuss it with specific people as I'm not very social.

Not sure I'd categorize myself as "Otaku" but my friends and family know I like anime (my brother watches too)..

I also wear anime themed shirts / hats to the gym or the mall.

Like this for example

I'm rather open about it, I read manga in public and I'll wear anime related appeal listen to the music almost always or drawing or making something related in some way or another, which if asked I'll say yeah duh. I don't go on the street and just say it but if you a asked me I'd just say that I am and can continue from there. Most people I meet will know my luv for anime prob within the first few mins of seeing me if I had to guess from the expressions I get from a few strangers.
Course I'm odd and embrace that about myself. XD

I wouldn't categorize myself as an otaku but my close friends know I like anime. I have anime wallpaper for my phone and on occasions, I have worn an anime shirt in public.

I'm open. I don't have a lot of anime merch to wear, but I certainly don't hide my interests. I'll bring it up if a conversation goes in that direction.

Yes because I am old and mean and don't give a crap what anyone thinks

nope. I'm getting there, though.

I'd say most people I know are aware that I watch quite a bit of anime.
The only ones that probably do not (at this time) are my girlfriend's parents. This is mostly out of the fact that I've only met them a handful of times and they take more notice of my math/engineering/computing nerdiness than my anime/otaku levels.

Yup
On my days off of work, I go to Barnes and nobles or the gas station or whatever in my anime shirts plus if that wasn't so obvious I have a keychain of Miku that's always with my keys

Same as you really. I'm not hiding it, i just don't talk about it.
My friends know i'm into anime, but since they don't watch it i wouldn't have a reason to talk about it with them anyway.

If i was hiding it, it wouldn't last for long since my room is way past the point of just shoving anime related stuff in a closet Oreimo style.

not very open. only my brothers really know I'm an otaku though when dragonball z aired I always took control of the TV. I do kinda have outsiders syndrome though and I've never been very social. not very much people have the same interests

I had to google what otaku meant TT-TT

I don't think I consider myself an otaku.

We are married, she is 34, and I am 31 and we are both very open about or anime obsession.

We both have Anime related paraphernalia and quite openly show it, although as for conversing to others about it only if they are also into it.

We dont just go around only talking about it though, I like to think we are quite normal people who just really really like anime.

And of course, we are ALL normal
