Ok guys, it's not that bad.

I'm in Tokyo, a few streets east of Akihabara. The apartment building I'm in swayed left-right for about 15 or so seconds, more than 10 but less than 20.

This is from NHK-G in the room

Evacuation warnings issued for local areas around Fukushima prefecture but as you can see from the numbers (brown block) the tsunami itself isn't that high. One of the reactor cooling had trouble but is now back on line.

Please keep praying for the local residents but things are not bad, helicopter shots of various cities show no fires or big tsunami going over barriers, etc.

(I'm having a busy trip, going to post something later)

wahhhh 15 seconds? I'm abroad in Japan for a year and I live in Mitaka; our dorm building swayed for like three whole minutes

Well I didn't break out a timer or anything... It just felt like 15 or so seconds. Three minutes sounds a bit long to me.........

10ft isn't that much really. It will mess up the coast a bit but just 10 feel is a bit less than twice the average person's height.

It happens.. just something you have to deal with if you live in Japan. It's a bother but nothing to get worked up about ,

This looks bad. California never seems to get near as many Earthquakes that's for sure. I was going to say it's because California is on the outer zone of the ring. Yet looking at a map, California clearly is completely covered by the projections for the Ring of Fire's area. I believe the reason it doesn't get near as many Earthquakes is because unlike Japan it's got itself attached to an entire continent shelf whereas Japan is simply an island. It's really sad because I'm starting to think Japan's becoming like the new Venice which has its share of environmental hazards due to the fact it's sinking.
