Can't they just... cook it?

The article warned that handling and cooking it properly wasn't enough to kill the E. coli. From the article 'Dr Mark Holmes, reader in microbial genomics and veterinary science at Cambridge University, warned that Government advice on handling chicken hygienically and cooking it thoroughly was not enough'.

E. coli is incredibly common, even in human homes, and they're handling a bird that shits a lot. We live in a filthy world. I'd be surprised and disbelieving if a news report claimed that 95% of supermarket chickens weren't infected. The "superbug" part is a bit disheartening, but unsurprising.

I like those odds I'd take that gamble. You mark it down 75% we can make it happen.

I'm pretty sure I have eaten some undercooked chicken at some point in my life. Whatever. We all take risks, we all take chances.
