How much do you really love your parents? Do you pretend? Do you just do it out of custom? Are you going to cry at their funeral? What are your thoughts?

Enjoy!!!

Yeah, more than I did in the past that's for sure. Probably would cry at the funeral.

Of course I do. I don't always agree with them. My mom's a basket case and my dad is a lying drunk. But I love them.

I have grown to resent them a lot (especially my dad)since they only live 2 hours away and rarely visit their granddaughter. We always have to go see them. My dad makes the 2 hour drive like once a year. It's sad since I know if my in-laws lived close by they'd make the trip every other weekend just to see her. Plus when I do see them we always argue. I struggle keep my mouth shut when politics come up.

In fact my dad was supposed to come visit this weekend. But he just called me this morning saying he wouldn't make it and gave a BS excuse. This is something we planned a couple months ago. I wouldn't mind if this was an isolated incident but this has literary happened a dozen times. It's come to the point that I don't even tell my daughter he's visiting since I hate seeing the look of disappointed when I say he's not coming.

Sorry, I needed to vent and this seemed like the perfect thread.

No, I do not. I am transgender and they are conservatives who are unwilling to accept the fact that all people deserve the same rights, regardless of sexual identity or sexual orientation. I am positive that they would disown me if they found out about my transsexuality. How can I know for sure? Well, whenever the topic of LGBT individuals comes up, they say nasty things. Their persistence scares me. My dad also remarks that if I were LGBT, he would beat the **** out of me. It is not a pleasant thing to hear from your own dad, is it?

However, they seem to be of the opinion that our relationship is fully functional. They do have some good qualities that I admire, which allows me to pretend that I love them. I have kind of grown used to living a life where I don't have an issue enjoying time with my parents, but deep down inside I know that it is just an illusion that is bound to fall apart one day. It is difficult to explain.

I can't say I love my dad because I never got to know him, dementia took him away when I was about 5 years old.

As for my mom, well definitely, she's one of those parents who wants to give their kids a better future than the ones they have.

Its mostly an unconditional thing, there is no feeling when saying I love you. I just respect them for trying to be good parents.

They are part of the reason I'm who I am today, so for I love them. They have their faults but I don't knock them too hard for it.
