I've been to many open air hot springs and stayed at places identical to what you see in anime. Also dressed in the jinbei they provide you.

Did the traditional drinking party several times at bars in Japan. We got our own room and got happy drunk.

Went to a Summer festival and did the kingyo/goldfish game (I got a couple) And went around eating typical festival food.

Went to a shrine on New Year eve.

Went to a maid cafe', but it wasn't anything like it was in anime. It was actually uncomfortable and creepy.

What exactly are those like in person? You make it sound really awful instead of just being a novelty

On the day I arrived at university, my sister called me onee-chan.

I heard laughter, looked for the source and found two japanese students behind me running away.

Several episodes of Genshiken Nidame. Complete with former members randomly appearing at the club and actually getting a table at an anime con (to advertise the university but they're allowed to promote the club too).

That and spending my entire university life commuting from home to uni by train and in some cases, to the other campus by train.

Well I used to take karate classes so now I have a fighting style integrated into my natural reactions in case anything happens.

Maybe I should take martial arts classes again sharpen those reactions.

Found myself rushing to campus eating a poptart. Dropped the poptart mid stride as I was holding on to the it with the sheer strength of my lips alone. Proceeded to have a moment of depression and stare at fallen pastry. Decided to not go to class that day

One on one training in martial arts, free of charge, that was sparked from a random encounter.

To be fair, the man admitted he only wanted to teach me so he could use me as practice, and he probably wouldn't have done it for free if his class had seen any interest. We live out in the country, and not many people were interested.

Cool stuff, though.... even though I'm terrible. Tai Chi is hard, M'kay.

hehehe....need very padded walls, and maybe even a padded ceiling, if you're doing to seriously learn push hands!

Nothing that crazy yet.

Not sure that we will. He's not fond of painful practice.

He's been doing it for over 15 years, and his teacher is a woman. She goes to Dallas and other places when they have large... meets or whatever. Basically, the really skilled masters travel around and do these sessions from time to time.

He said he went to a couple, but it wasn't worth the drive and the money, and was more like bragging rights of seeing a celebrity first-hand than real training. There are too many people to really get any attention from those instructing.

Though, if I had been doing it as long as him, I'd probably just go to connect with more people to practice/learn from.

I only went to one so i can't speak for all of them. But here's my experience:

None of the girls were particularly cute, just alright. I was in my mid 20's at the time and all the girls were flat chested 17 year olds. Not my thing and i felt like a total creep. They would burst out in J-Pop songs every few minutes on stage. We got handed a business card from one girl. I guess she's trying to promote herself as an idol. I remember she had bad breath. The food and drinks were terrible for the price. Plus the place had a cold high school cafeteria feel. It didn't feel warm and cozy like I thought it would.

It was something we did just to say we did it.

I could just feel the awkwardness

Imagine a 6/10 girl singing J-Pop in some high pitch annoying voice. Then handing you a business card.

We went to a bar later to wash away the shame in alcohol.

Cut the foreplay and just head over to a "Pink Bar" in Shinjuku. Pay your 40,000円, bust a nut, spend an hour playing pachinko, go home to your sleeping wife and children, wake up and continue life as a salary man.

On a serious note: I thought I wanted to go to a Maid Cafe before I've seen a real one but after seeing their workers on the streets handing out discount coupons and paper ads, I just felt bad for them. They're just young people trying to make ends meet and they have to deal with creeps and play the Super Always Happy Kawaii Maido Girl role all day.

I didn't feel bad for them since they pushed their wannabe J-Pop idol on us so much. There's other ways to make money without shaming yourself.

Some people get off on this and all the power to them, but not me. Not my scene.

Feeling like I am travelling from parallel world to parallel world. Sometimes my memories don't match up with others. It feels like some anime episodes cover less of a manga, a book having 100 pages less than I remember it having, or a chunk of land being replaced by a department store that wasn't there the other day.
Having an insane amount of luck. There is a game where the only reason I lose is because I have a really bad deck. I have managed to win against pros though.
Being able to predict the future.
Being a NEET (Although I am going back into education and that is going to be tiring...).
Oh, when I was young, I always used to rest on my mom's breasts and stuff. I don't get why she let me. (This might belong in a mature manga...)
On that count, having a mother with really big breasts (Which are not a good thing, as they give you back pain if you do not get a good bra).
Oh, and I often go to the (TMI) and leave the door open (Apparently Ikki did that, so it fits into an anime like thing :P)
