is there any type of figure in music that you guys would consider a sort of creative genius. What i mean by this is a type of individual who consistently pushes the boundary of music or creates timeless songs again and again. Also, it can be a type of artist that consistently evolves or changes things up. Honestly, it can be anybody who you think stands out from other musicians or artists

here are some people i regard as creative geniuses

1. Frank zappa (solo, mothers of invention)

2. Buckethead

3. Anton Newcombe (the brian jonestown massacre)

I have watched it. It was a great movie for sure. Personally though, i still don't see all the hype about ginger. The dude is a good drummer for sure, but he is in the same realm as john bonham for me. They are both great drummers, but i feel that they are a little overrated. It is just in my opinion that behind every figure like Ginger or Bonham, there is a drummer out there either better or just as good that doesn't get noticed. However, i haven't listened to a ton of ginger's material, so i can't say fully that i know the extent of his skill

I guess if I had to name some it'd be three individuals who've revealed so much to me in terms of what music can mean to us in every facet of life. Two are more well-known and the third is one who I feel has given me a personal safe haven in just listening and enjoying music.

1. Damon Albarn - Blur, Gorillaz, The Good, The Good, the Bad & the Queen, various soundtracks and solo albums

2. Yoko Kanno - anime soundtracks including Macross Plus, Cowboy Bebop, Wolf's Rain, Terror in Resonance

3. Keith Kenniff - Helios, Goldmund, Mint Julep, various music projects

Bonham was a straight up hack in comparison to Ginger Baker

That's not saying Bonham wasnt good - like Baker said, he's got good chops, but the guy cant swing"

IMO Keith Moon blew Bonham out of the water, but Moon couldnt hold a candle to Baker either. In the realm of technical understanding, capacity, and ability to put all that technical shit into a song in an actual listenable manner.

Baker is of the old school where drummers were super solid and the ostensible anchor-leader of the band, like Buddy Rich.

in terms of rock drummers, he was certainly something. Bonham just hit hard and moon's technique was unique. Ginger is a good drummer because he plays in the jazz style which is a lot more technical than what rock typically demands. Another drummer with similar skill that i would have to give credit to is Mitch Mitchell from the jimi Hendrix experience or billy cobham from mahavishnu orchestra

I'm sure ginger would shit on my drumming too, to be fair but in my defense I was never traditionally trained ++for mitchell & cobham
