You lost your chance to be that someone. You were too slow, or did not understand the significance of the event.

A LOT OF SHIT IS GONNA HAPPEN because of his passing! 2016 has been a crazy year, so far.

For all the crap we give Cuba, its government's human rights violation seems no different than a lot of other countries we trade with.

Every country has commit human rights violations. Not just Cuba.

Hence I tend to agree with your statement. I hate propaganda that say "X country is perfect, they do no wrong!"

Exactly, but in terms of modern consistency, there are a lot of countries we should embargo too for the exact same reasons but don't. SE Asia and Middle Eastern countries in particular. That reasoning for not lifting the embargo is faulty, and demands ignorance of countries outside our hemisphere.

The fact is, we stand to profit from these countries, but when a country need the US trade more than we need them, and we shut out trade for these self righteous reasons, despite propping up dictators like Batista and Diem, this makes me angry about the US government.

One less dictator. Even though his brother had been running things for some time. The irony is Trump wants warmer relations with Russia but shut Cuba out again for whatever reason. So I doubt this will change the situation much.

I can't really judge the man. I didn't know him and I'd rather not judge him based on our biased news alone. People are rarely good or evil but shades of grey. He did a lot of good things.....as well as bad things. Who really was Fidel Castro? I don't really have any answers so my knowledge is sorely limited and I refuse to judge him based on what others tell me I should feel about him. I'm sure he made a lot of mistakes and did a lot of bad things but the bad guys rarely ever see themselves as bad. Were those he fought against committing worse crimes than he did? He brought education to his people, he helped raise the poor out of extreme poverty and offered free healthcare all things which contradict being a horrible person. He also clamped down on the media and dissidents. He silenced his opponents and also helped to end apartheid in Africa. Horrible dictator or revolutionary? I guess time will be the judge of that. Thank goodness because I'd rather not be the one to judge him. I've got my own problems.

I do think our treatment of Cuba was a tad bit overboard and unfair. We're not embargoing Iran or many of the other nations which have even worse dictators and leaders. It seems a bit hypocritical to me.

He passed power onto his brother years ago, I doubt much will change with his passing.
