2016 finally claims someone we can all agree has lived entirely too long.

Can we have Otis Clay and David Bowie back? Pretty please?

One down, one to go. Once his brother bites the dust it is quite likely we can finally work with the next leader to completely end the embargo.

And so passes another relic of a now bygone era. Though I wouldn't say his death is in any way a victory for democracy and liberty like how I've seen some people treat it as. The man died peacefully in his bed at the ripe old age of 90, after surviving literally hundreds of assassination attempts, shaping a country in his image, and accomplishing almost everything he set out to do in life. In other words he got to go out on his terms. This really changes nothing about Cuba unless the system he creates ends up being dismantled, which I'm skeptical of.

Well, it died elsewhere in 1989, we just spent the other twenty-seven years listening to someone's cranky, senile old ex-60's-leftwing grandpa rant his old activist slogans about why capitalism is slavery, and why Lenin could have caught on over here if we'd just given it a decent chance.
Ironically, he died around Thanksgiving, which is around the same time most of us get the chance to hear our own.

Well, they could have replaced him with Peter Falk from that Twilight Zone episode:

Well said! Well said!

Except that Raul, his brother, is dismantling it, piecemeal. It's a work in progress. Last week, they just legalized private small businesses, in response to increased tourism, because Obama normalized relations with Cuba. I read that Internet has become more accessible to the public, and that the people are finding it easier to talk openly about the government and their conditions (the people are still timidly dipping their toes in that pool, though).

Now that Fidel is dead, I expect a more rapid change of pace for Cuba to follow.

Well some people on the internet found Trudeau's comments on Castro's passing quite objectionable (I certainly thought it was over the top). They have created many memes of great dankness as a response.

Even my pro-Trudeau friend got some laughs out of them.
