My friends would get very offended when people refereed anime as cartoons. I don't care so much myself tbh.

I refer to them as cartoons on purpose. It's always hilarious when the weebs get upset.

I'm not too bothered by what people call them. In the Western world, of course, they'd be considered "cartoons". That's the only basis of comparison that we here in UK/USA.

I find grammar nazis that go off on people for conflating Effect and Affect more acceptable.

that said I dont really know what the hell difference is between manga and anime....I thought Manga was a company or something, because I really only remember seeing it watching the ol street fighter cartoon. I mean anime, or was it manga? Whether its a blood orange or a navel, its still a fkn orange...

I feel anime really shouldn't be lumped together with regular cartoons. I mean yeah, they're both animated, but the rules and techniques used in them are completely different from one another. If you were an accomplished cartoon animator and you wanted to go make anime in japan you would need to pretty much learn from scratch, so I think it's dumb to act like they're the same.

Not really since that's what anime is. However, when discussing western cartoons and Japanese cartoons at the same time I feel the term 'anime' can help distinguish between the two; it's also less of a mouthful.

I don't care much, they can call it whatever they want as long as I understand what they are saying.

No it isn't. I am talking about a difference in approach, methodology and practice. A different process altogether. You are talking about a difference in the instrument being used.

See the difference?
