Thoughts and Opinions?

For me Im sad about it ditching the turn based system but with the new real time combat it's a blast for people new to the game/ genre. Unfortunately for the combat system is a bit to thin for my taste.

Overall from riding chocobos with my friends to fantastic story telling it has nearly satisfied everything that I wanted from a modern Final Fantasy Game.

im gonna get it but i will always miss turn based

turn base > real time combat.

Though we always have Bravely default for turn based.

when was the last time you played a Final Fantasy game? they dropped turn-based after FFX which was...15 years ago. Bravely Default is an amazing alternative, though.

also, anyone get the game yet? can anyone give a very general and spoiler-free while also try to persuade us on your opinion review? is it worth it at the $60 price point or should i wait until a price drop?

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/kingsglaive-final-fantasy-xv-blu-ray-eng-fre-jap-spa-tha-2016/5498308.p?skuId=5498308

Bestbuy has the blu-ray movie for $10 with free $5 gift..

i'll watch the movie first and see if the game is worth it

even though the reviews are in http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-4/final-fantasy-xv

$48+tax for a game with 4 pretty boys on some camping trip (at least that's the impression i'm getting from the tech demos)

it's kind of funny how Conan put it-- but he's not entirely wrong

Final Fantasy series strayed off path starting with FFXIII imo..

in RPGs often time you will have more than 4 party members (if not.. males and females).. having an all male party gave me the vive that this game is targeting female gamers-- the characters are too girly for me

as for technical stuff about the game

I'm personally loving the game. I'm playing it on PS4 Pro with the High settings and I am not noticing these framerate issues people keep tending to go on about. A lot of people I've talked to aren't experiencing them. It makes me wonder if it's an issue with the TV being used because there have been a few instances where the PS4 Pro isn't working well with certain 4k sets. I dunno! In any case, this has been the best FF experience for me in a long time. I'm loving it.

Also. For the sake of fun. Final Fantasy started straying from it's roots with FF6. It went into Cyberpunk/Magic hybrid world with no talk of Crystals, learning magic was drastically different, and many other changes thematically.

FF7, 8, 10, 12, and 13 all took radically different routes with the formula. (Not counting 11 and 14 being MMOs and utilizing an entirely different design philosophy by proxy). There are always going to be certain key elements and reoccurring themes between the FF games and I'm personally happy for changes in the systems as times change. What seemed fun to me at age 10 can now seem horrifically boring to me at age 30. Just my 2 cents.

I like it more than I expected, but goodness, these boys are a bit boring. Both in personality and design - they all look so similar that in-game I have difficulty telling them apart, sometimes. They all wear black, two of them have black hair, Gladiolus has shorter sleeves but huge black arm tattoos that - at a distance - just look like an extension of his sleeves. I know you can change their outfits, but out of the box one of the alternatives is also black and the other is pretty silly. Also, call me an SJ if you want, but I really would have liked a female character in the main party. If only to temper some of the bro-ier moments between the boys.

But I enjoy the combat - wish they'd have given it to something other than Final Fantasy, since I prefer turn-based combat, but series nostalgia not speaking the combat system does have some great things in it. Take some of these innovations and pop them in Kingdom Hearts III, and you'd have something pretty damn fun. I love some of the little things, like being able to play old Final Fantasy soundtracks while you drive around. The actual story is fairly good, for a FF game, and despite how bizarre it is at times I like the modern day, vaguely Americana worldbuilding that they use. It's not something you see very often in a fantasy game.

It's a really good game, but for those who like traditional FF games, you'll have to change your mindset if you want to fully enjoy it since this game is more about the side content and the open world than it is about the narrative. I personally am not a huge fan of the magic in the game and I hoped for a better and longer story, but I think there's plenty here to enjoy just from the side/post-game open world content alone to justify a purchase.

Also, the load times are ridiculously long on the original PS4 model, though I hear it's much better on the PS4 Pro.

The magic is visually impressive, but is murder on you and your friends. My brother and I played for 8 hours or so, never left chapter 1.

Started playing the minute it was realeased (had digital download pre-ordered for my xbox one s)

Graphics are INCREDIBLE, everything looks gorgeous.

Traveling can be a bit tedious and boring but they find nice ways to help it with the OG FF soundtracks you can get and play in car, etc. Plus tons to stop and explore so that's always fun. Map is gargantuan and the open-worldyness is great.

Combat system takes some getting used to. Seems to work really well when fighting one or few enemies but gets a bit difficult when fighting large groups with targeting the right enemy and trying to dodge atks from all directions. They have a "wait mode" you can turn on that is supposed to be more turn-based-ish but I have yet to try it. Magic can also be a bit troublesome to hit the enemy with as they often move right as you throw it, and the free-aim magic use is a bit slow to aim.

The monsters and enemies are great, I especially like the grand scales some of the monsters/enemies/creatures have as it does a good job of intimidating you and adding a stressful element to the encounters.

Story seems good so far, which is of course one of the biggest parts of any FF game.

Overall I am pleased, and eager to plunge farther into the game and see how it goes. Main thing I can say is don't feel rushed. Take you lr time to explore/do side quests if you want. I have also read that even if you finish the main storyline you still have access to go back and complete every side quest, some even recommend waiting until the "end" to go back and complete certain ones.

Main complaint thus far is that the day/night cycle is too short. As often I find myself having to backtrack to a camping spot or something to rest as traveling at night is very dangerous, especially early in game (OP night enemies) and your characters suffer debuffs for not being adequately rested and such. Would prefer if 2 hours irl would equal one in game day instead of the current 1 hour irl.

So far, so good as far as I'm concerned. I like the shift to open world a lot- it feels massive, and by Freya IT'S PRETTY. The combat's pretty decent, although it does seem to be a tad.... unresponsive sometimes?? Like, it looks like Noctis spends more time dancing with the enemy than actually hitting them which gets a little annoying..... And the number of times I've missed a block/parry even though I WAS DEFINETLY HOLDING THE BLOCK BUTTON is slighty infuriating. You really need to bear in mind it's an RPG first, and not an action game.

I'm only like 7 hours in, but I love it. I'm not happy or sad about them scrapping turn-based, since I love the fast action, but turn-based games definitely have their appeal. I'm kind of angry at how long it always takes to travel around, but I just hate waiting.

I'm buying it soon enough. I don't want too much spoilers till then. The idea of driving the car to travel another places sounds cool. I also have seen clip of battle. Looks good enough.

Till that day comes to me...

For the blocking, You cant be in mid swing. It happens alot to me, But thankfully noctis has a fair amount of hp, unlike pronto and ignis.

as for the nigh cycle, You could just wait it out (granted that is rather boring) And you can run out of fights (but a stray attack might hit you, Even if noctis goes to 0 hp/max hp, it still gives you time to use a pheonix down, So its actually rather hard to get killed and get a game over as long as you stock up on those.

never noticed debuffs though, I've banked my exp several times over days... first time was 20k, then 50, last was 120k (saving up gil and using the golden quay's in to get teh 2x bonus XD)

I'm at the end of chapter 3 at level 54/52's (Did all side quests I could find, and about 95% of the hunts, some of the night ones didnt seem to spawn for me, so not sure if I have to go further into the story) sitting around 36hours into the game, and just about ready to head into chapter 4 with my newly crafted engine blade 3, And about 6 armigers.

In terms of story nowhere better than pre-FFX games but It's the most fun I've had since FFX (at least it's not extremely linear like FFXIII. I honestly don't mind the shifting away from turn based (better get used to it since FFVII Remake looks to be real-time...)

I'm glad that there is an option for sub since I don't particularly prefer dub.

I love the photo sessions, Prompto takes some good stuff at times.

The chapter 2 boss did give me a laff at how it looked like he was getting hyped up in the pre-fight cutscene, and then my comrades killed him while I took care of trash mobs around the area...
