Yeah iam not gonna buy a ps4 for this but if it were to come out on PC then i would check it out.
Kinda find it hard to get past the "boy band adventure" thing though. But i used to play alot of JRPG's so i guess it's nothing new (playing as a pretty boy).

Pretty much all of this.
I feel that most people who are criticizing the storyline itself didn't spend much time getting to know the crew. I accidentally left for Altissa a little earlier than I wanted to, which meant that I was thrown head-first into the "rest of the game" (storyline wise). But, by that time, I had thrown in about 95 hours of gameplay and Noctis + Crew were level 90-92.
I think it's probably one of my top three Final Fantasy games to date, for the story. I compare it to Final Fantasy VII, yet the storyline of XV isn't the "epic" that VII was - this is a story about commoderie. This is a story about the friendship Noctis had formed with his "bodyguards" and how they handle things once they're no longer certain of their duty or Noctis. This game was absolutely beautiful, storyline and graphically.

I could phrase the same thing that Judar did in a different way, but why bother? I think he's summarized about 90% of how I feel about this game.
Magic isn't on the backburner like most review sites are talking about, though. It's a different method - a different logic and algorithm to it than most other Final Fantasy games. I like it, but feel that it could stand for some minor tweaks to make it easier for those who don't grind the hell out of AP.

Finally: HOLY CRAP SUMMONS ARE BEAUTIFUL AND OVERWHELMINGLY AMAZING (gotta throw that out there)

I really loved this game. The road trip. The characters. The story may be somewhat mixed for others but I really liked what they did with Noctis and the characters. This game does a lot of things that I like about final fantasy and even things I never thought about wanting. A director's cut wouldn't be impossible and I think it would be great if that were to happen at some point.

WOW. I just arrived n Atissa and........ just WOW.
I mean the rest of the game is damn pretty, but seriously....... When your boat is sailing up the canal and the city comes into view- that's a visual highlight for this generation of consoles.

I completed the story on Saturday night and am now working on post-game content as well as the Platinum trophy. I'm 62 hours in and appears I have several more before I truly "complete" the game.

Okay so I need an explanation, as someone who still needs to play this. Square has announced that it's going to go back and add plot elements that were missing from the original release, but aside from Ravus not having enough screentime and not having his motivations for anything established, I haven't really heard any complaints from the playerbase. Can someone please clue me in as to what's currently in need of fixing?

The problem I had with the game is that aside from the main cast and some major side characters, there really wasn't a lot of backstory or substance to compel you to care or empathize with said characters. Ravus was one of them alongside a few which I will not name. Also, things quickly turned starting in Chapter 13 that made the ending feel a little bit rushed, leaving several questions unanswered in the process. So while it did a good job for the most part with the main cast (aside from a minor grievance I have), it for the most part only showed what happened through Noctis's lens, resulting in limited screen time and development of other characters and subplots.

I feel the narrative would have benefited greatly had we been given reason to care and empathize with certain characters if their subplots and backgrounds been fleshed out in more detail. All in all, it was a good game, but I feel it could have used a more focused narrative rather than giving us the bare minimum at times.

Ah, so there were many more supporting characters who suffered from Ravus syndrome, eh? Well fair enough, I guess that's reason enough for me to keep waiting until after the story patches come out to get the game (although I doubt I have much of a choice, seeing as I need to wait for the PC version) I hope it really works out well for Square-Enix (god it feels weird saying that) it's been far too long since we've had a truly memorable Final Fantasy main cast and as a longtime fan, I can't wait to meet characters I love again.

I don't know exactly how much Square Enix can make up for the poor writing in the 1.0 release of this game, but maybe the DLC episodes with Gladius, Ignis, and Prompto alongside the story patches can help somewhat. It seems highly unlikely they will able to remediate all of the missteps and lack of exposition that run rampant through this unfocused narrative, though I'm holding out hope that they can make some notable improvements to the story.

All in all, it's a really good game, but it could have been so much better if the writing and pacing of the story weren't all over the place.

Well they're adding a ton of content and in some cases practically redoing certain chapters. (You'll be glad to know one of said chapters is Chapter 13. Why does Final Fantasy fuck up anything with the number 13 in it? It's weird) so I definitely have faith. As for the narrative being unfocused... well, it's a roadtrip story after all, right? Aren't those kind of supposed to be that way?
