Hi, I am currently in charge of an anime group at the local library. We had the bright idea to have a marathon of winter anime. I am having difficulties finding episodes that take place in snow and winter that aren't depressing or bloody. Any ideas? This group is open to all ages but usually they are preteen. Thanks

I've moved this over to our Advice, Info, Recommendations forum.

I suggest including a few episodes of Lovely Muuuuuuuco!. Episodes are short and fun and don't depend highly on each other for any story. Deals largely with the antics of a dog and the people connected to her. I don't remember exactly which episodes take place in winter, but with this show it should be pretty easy to tell just by watching a few seconds of each -- even episode descriptions might help. (e.g. if the description mentions cherry blossoms, it's not a winter episode )

Episodes 10 and 11 (especially 11) of Haven't You Heard, I'm Sakamoto might be okay too, but I'd suggest skimming through them at least to make sure you think they are okay for the preteens. I have a bad memory for the possibly objectionable.

Maybe Acchi Kocchi? I don't remember the series all that well, but I think it was sort of a light romance/comedy. If I remember correctly, several episodes take place in winter.

Not sure if your group likes romance anime, but if so here are some ideas:

Kanon: All of it is set in winter. Gets depressing, certainly (though does pull out a happy ending), although not every episode is a tear-jerker...

Amagami: Just about the whole thing takes place at Christmas time. Upbeat, though it's a super-sappy high school romance.

Sword Art Online: Christmas episode is depressing. The Liz episode takes place on an ice-covered floor of the dungeon, and is more uplifting.

Toradora: Most of the second half of the anime takes place in winter. (The last three major plot arcs are Christmas, a ski trip, and Valentine's Day)

My Love Story: Christmas episode is solid.

Kimi ni Todoke: Christmas and New Years episodes are all really sappy, but good if they like shoujo.

I know there was episode 11 of "Is My Order a Rabbit?" and Santa Company was fun. If you don't mind light ecchi there's also Chocotto Sister and Itsudatte My Santa!
