I was in the middle of doing some cleaning in preparation for decorating the place and I wondered if others do it as well. I do because it's fun. I don't really care that it's a contradiction and hell, it's an excuse to celebrate and be happy with the people (and dogs) I love. Only difference, of course, is I don't go to church, or pray, or believe in the story behind it. So, atheists of CR, do you decorate your home for the holidays?

As for others, thoughts on this?

I'm not atheist but also not Christian, but I absolutely LOVE Christmas decorations. Everything's shiny and sparkly and the lights are fabulous. Besides the snow and the illnesses that go around (and working retail throughout), it has to be one of my favorite times because everything seems magical.

Not yet.. But I did just pay for a Silicone life like Ice King mask. Going to my sisters for Christmas where I be dressed as the Ice king as I hand out gifts, and sing karaoke.. ( first song Male version of Let It Go. from Frozen.) I am the crazy uncle in my family. No kids of my own so I spoil my little sisters kids. ( being single and never finding my Princes makes me sad, Because I really do like kids. )

Can you guess who I am in my family pics?

The guy in black?

I'm glad to hear that man. We sent a huge box of gifts for my fiance's only niece and it's probably 75% stuff from Frozen. That's one happy little girl.

Yep.. as for gifts I am still shopping around, last year got a drone for my Brother, he is the one with the hat, and I got those brain wave cat ears for his wife, she the skinny one next to him, She is also a doctor. I got my sisters son a bee bee gun that looks like a sniper rifle, and some spy sun glasses that take video of what he is looking at, witch he can upload on his computer. This year I have to try beating last years gifts,

Nice. I just came from a long vacation overseas and brought stuff for everyone, including a touchscreen laptop for my sister, so I'll go a little light on the holiday gifts this year.

Oh, definitely. I like the lights and such. Same reason I decorate for Halloween - I don't believe that'll ward off evil spirits or anything, but it is fun to do anyway.

No, at least, not yet. I like the festive atmosphere and all, but I really can't be bothered with most decorating, regardless of the holiday. What I'm looking into, though, is transplanting an evergreen tree into my yard and decorating it with birdfeed for all my local avians. I look forward to waking up on a snowy day and glancing out my windows to see cardinals, sparrows, titmice, and whatnot pecking away at seeds, fruit, and popcorn. Other than that little dream, I Christmas shop and reserve the winter for cooking special treats.

saturnalia is far older than "christmas"

but when one is inventing a religion, it helps to schedule a holy day around the time of other beliefs holy days, so that people will still have that excuse to party.

I dont decorate for anything, aside from regular inside decor. got better things to spend money on than light pollution.

Well, no.
When I'm alone/single, I don't even bother with taking off on Christmas. I don't see much point in it - usually means I'm traveling somewhere for work (yes, I'm a glutton for punishment - traveling during the holiday season in general). If I'm in a relationship, it depends on whether or not their family celebrates it. This Christmas I'll be going to my girlfriend's parents' beach house in Florida for about a week. I've bought a few gifts for them and her. That's about as much as I'm going to be doing, though. Not putting up any decorations or anything at all.
