I'm sure it definitely was not infinite, there should be an upper bound where behavior changes, like a coefficient of friction below which your tires stay on the road, above which your tires dont.

This is why the cosmic inflation theory makes some sense, because if the energy was well beyond that upper bound then there should be no issue with the speed of light being exceeded while the whole process was above the coefficient of friction.
