The rumors were, indeed, true!

Now I'm hoping that the game NOT having any characters from the X-Men franchise won't turn out to be true. It just won't feel like a Marvel vs Capcom game without Wolverine, Storm, Magneto, etc.

On another note, I'm pumped that Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) is part of the cast. She's badass.

Capcom once again makes me feel like shit for not being a part of the fgc

Looks badass though. I'm pumped for Captain Marvel being in it, though her design is pretty questionable. I hope she can use her binary form.

The art style on Ryu isn't something I love, but I'm very interested in seeing how the stripped back reboot of Marvel works. My one issue with Marvel in the past couple of games (MvC2, MvC3 and UMvC3) is just how insane and over the top everything is as someone who generally enjoys more slower paced and strategic fighters. Bringing it back to two on two with your off screen partner being the assist call might actually be bringing a series I used to love closer to something I can actually enjoy again.

In the gameplay video, it almost looks like the assist call-in functions like it did in Tekken Tag 2 where call-ins are used more for building and extending combos rather than single hit and run moves. Interesting stuff.

As a not huge Marvel fan this one actually has my attention now.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of Ryu's character model here either. Since this is still early into development, I hope they change it a bit. This is just wishful thinking, but I would love a cel shaded art style for this game.

As for the gameplay, I totally agree that MvC2 and UMvC3 were a bit too fast for me to follow. When watching matches I can get the gist of what's going on but no way would I be able to actually execute that if I were playing.

Now if only Capcom had the rights to DC characters too (I can't stand NetherRealm's animation)... sigh...

What's wrong with NetherRealm's animations?

I find it kinda stiff.

Sure they've come a long way from the early MK games but if you watch how their characters throw punches, kicks; how they run and jump; it's just not a fluid looking motion --- especially if you compare to how characters move in Street Fighter, Tekken, Dead or Alive, etc.

In Shazam's intro, for example, look at how Billy Batson runs lol

Now watch Erron Black... the way he throws stuff, kicks, etc... it just gives an unnatural feel. The way the opponent reels after he hits them looks out of place because of how his body is positioned when executing his moves. In "real life" the way he moves doesn't seem like it would generate power.

Then compare with Street Fighter V. Even if the moves can be outlandish (hey, we are talking video games after all), it's animated in such a way that you'd think it was possible: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrwHh078OB8

I'm probably just being picky, but that's why I don't like NetherRealm's style. That, and their character models can be ugly as sin.

I mean, the animations aren't top notch sure, but I feel they serve a more utilitarian purpose than other fighting games' animations. With games like Street Fighter and Tekken it can often be unclear where and when the hitboxes to an attack are, but with the admittedly more boxy and rigid animations of MK there is a lot less confusion I find. Ironically it's something I also feel with the Marvel vs Capcom 3 games. I mean sure their animations are filled with much more bombast and style but they still have pretty stiff animations, I find. Plus I think NR has a style that fits more closely with DC. Marvel's more vibrant and bouncy design sensibilities fit better with capcom whereas DC fits better with NRs more striking, dark and detailed look. I also really disagree about the models. Sure MKX looked a bit iffy at times but aside from that I would say they definitely nail it in the model design department.

I'm mixed about it. At least with the changes like the removal of assists. I'm glad it's back to being 2v2. The build of the game still looks early so hopefully the improve on it

I heard that X-Men characters will be DLC which is a disappointment. Also I would like to see different Darkstalkers in this one as I'm tired of Felicia, Morrigan and Hsein-Ko, I would like to see J.Talbain, Demitri, Donovan, Rikuo, Pyron, Sasquatch and even Bishamon get a shot.

I agree with this. I really don't care about the X-Men, but it's sad how Marvel keeps trying to shit in Sony's pint by burying them.

You mean Fox. And they're doing the same with FF.

But I agree with seeing different Darkstalkers.. Talbain & Donovan would be awesome. And Morrigan needs to just fly away.
