this is the downside of online shopping.. sign up for delivery notification might help .. at least you will know when the items were delivered

Thought you had to live in China to be a pirate, nowadays...What with it being the national industry, and all.

Early today I had to report that an item I ordered online showed as delivered (left on porch), but I didn't receive it. Fortunately, the company just shipped me out another one free without any fuss. Even with delivery notification, it wouldn't make much difference. I can't be at home during delivery business hours, I have work. I live alone, so no one to receive the packages.

Porch Pirates are scary!

Who do you call to get the pirates off your porch, once they settle in?

No porch pirates in my neighborhood

This is actually something that's been happening where I live. It's an upscale neighborhood (yet, it isn't gated - unfortunately), so most know that there's going to be fairly decent packages that get delivered. Thankfully, I work from home (most of the time - there are times where I'll have to head up to the DC Metro area to see the headquarters) - so as soon as the package hits the porch, I'm out there grabbing it.

Im seconding this! I wont shoot anyone who steals something from my porch, but if I do catch them I can guarantee they will get stomped out.

I get that it's for alliterative purposes, but "pirate" seems like a gross misuse of the word for something that would be stretching it to call the thieves highwaymen or bandits.

the best places to rob is the places with rich people.. especially those who think their community is so rich and safe that they can leave their garage door opened while they are at work.. or their car unlocked all day

most of these crimes are clearly "the crime of opportunity"

if the victim took extra steps then there will not be any problem.

i ordered a lot of stuff online this black friday and cyber monday.. all arrived safely :)

but like you i also work from home so

i can't find the video but there was a homeowner who chased after the pirate and got their wallet !

also there are other ways to deal with porch pirates

i'm sure you saw on youtube about people leaving large rocks or feces in some empty boxes that they retaped? and put outside in the porch as bait?

so they got the pirate on video plus pay back.

more and more people have security cameras now a day so when you walked onto someone's property you most likely on camera.. so.. i wouldn't risk it

when starting down the barrel of a 12 gauge shotgun.. will he/she drop the package and run or will they charge at you? life or death will depends on them.. it's hard to tell

I've never had a package stolen but it is a risk in some places. Most delivery people know when it's safe to leave a package though, and operate with some discretion. At least in my experience.
