Yaoi, Yuri and the like, I suppose. They just don't interest me unless I get a really strong recommendation. Shounen, to some extent as well, it's too predictable and 90% of it always feels like it's been recycled from the previous season.

Oh yea, if you have a strong stomach go ahead. If not I don't suggest reading/watching it.

I see what you did there...

I thought Yaoi was hardcore to begin with. It's Shounen-ai that is softcore.

Those. I stay away from those. Also, I hate loli/shota stuff. That is, anything that sexualizes child-like characters. To me, it is absolutely disgusting. I equate it with pedophilia.

EDIT:

O.K. I never knew this existed... But now I'll add this to stuff I'll never watch: Guro.... I just don't know what to think about folks who find that... "interesting."

Hentai in general, just don't care for it. Also Yaoi/shonen-ai for the same reason as many of the previous posts.

Hmm, favorite genre varies on my mood, but I tend to bounce around from comedy to slice of live, romance, action, adventure and fantasy genres with fantasy/action/adventure animes probably being my favorite.

EDIT: also had to look up Guro, I take back my previous post, that would definitely be the last thing I'd watch.

The only genre I avoid is sports anime. I watch sports so it doesn't really appeal to me.

1) I wouldn't want to write romance, because I know nothing about it and can't really understand it
2) I enjoy sci fi, action, existential, comedy; pretty much everything but sports anime.

Yaoi, futanari, and idol-themed anime. Don't care for any of them. Some people are drawn to them and that's okay but it's not for me.

It's better than being numb. it's also a great way to explore negative feels without having a shit time your-self. sometimes it helps one appreciate the good feels more. Variety is the spice of life, so long as that variety doesn't come at personal expense.

Ever accidentally watched a tragedy-themed anime? I binged on Your Lie in April thinking it's a fun slice-of-life anime with fairly good reviews. I was up all night and my fiance asked me wtf did I watch, I got her to watch it in 1 weekend. Same result. It's a roller-coaster of emotions.

most generic ecchiharems
as a bi girl i don't even find them to be very hot, they're often forced and unfunny if anything

ecchi. That's a nope for me. I don't need big boobs or a butt/vagina shot popping up in my face every minute for no reason except for fanservice. The only kinda ecchi anime i've ever watched is food wars. But, there's plot for it. So, the only way you'll get me to watch an ecchi anime is if it's necessary for plot, and let's be honest, it hardly is ever necessary.

I also kinda don't care for sci-fi. Only sci-fi series i've seen and enjoyed is neon genesis evangelion.

Well, I'm pretty open-minded (especially with anime and manga) and I watch/read just about anything. If I had to name a least favorite genre, it would be ecchi, but even then I wouldn't say that I completely avoid that genre. While I'm usually hesitant to watch/read an ecchi, if it has an interesting plot and/or I heard people say good things about it then I may check it out. After all, while there are plenty of bad ecchi, I have also seen some good (or even great) ecchi series.

Also, up until several years ago I had avoided the sports genre. The reason was because since I wasn't interested in real life sports, I didn't think I would enjoy an anime about it. However, one day I decided to try out Hajime no Ippo and I fell in love with that show. Then, I decided to try out other sports anime such as One Outs, Eyeshield 21, Kuroko's Basketball, Slam Dunk, Haikyu, and Yowamushi Pedal. I liked (or even loved) all of those series; so, I now consider the sports genre to be one of my favorite genres. That is why I try to give all genres a chance (even ecchi).

Along with sports, my other favorite genres include action, comedy, Boys Love (including everything from mild shounen-ai to hardcore yaoi), drama, sci-fi, and psychological.

I like every genre pretty much, especially if its good. I guess I tend to stay away from chibi spin off shows since every one I've watched pretty much sucked.

I stay away from anything with way too much fan service... there is way too much of that instead of clever stories :(

Pretty much harems and tragedy are the only ones I've seen that I will stay away from.

I stay away from romantic comedies. Especially Western ones. I don't like romance, and I don't like most popular Western comedies, thus, i really don't like romantic comedies. Also - anything I can generically label as "gritty". Stuff that's gory, violent , sexual, depressing, etc just because it can be. Most stories can be made family friendly without changing a single narrative point.

Bonus 1 - "Mystery" and whodunits. I just personally don't like them.

Bonus 2 - Pure slice of life
