California teachers are very expressive o their opinions, especially the ones with tenure. However, I love a teacher who expresses their opinion in context to the curriculum being taught, it spices things up a lot. However, they also need to use it to get the student involved to make their own opinion of the what is being expressed in opinion. I had a super left wing one who teaches civics and used to work for the UN, and she was a blast to debate with. It really made civics a "bleh" class to one of my favorites. That student was out of line videotaping in the classroom without her knowledge, but in the context of what the teacher was doing, maybe not. This is one of those things that America forces, where when something goes bad according to the system, it is the citizen's democratic duty to put themselves at risk of being right or wrong in order to change the system.

you can always sue

if you paid to be there and he/she making you feel unsafe/threaten just being there .. sue

sue the teacher and the school/college

sue- get it on the news- social media etc..

i'm sure you can find lawyers who will accept these cases.. especially when you drag the school/college in as well..

So, we are going to do the same thing to religion and stop dogmatizing right? Teachers are supposed to teach kids, not shove dogma down their throats.

Yes, teachers in Texas, Kansas and Missouri do this a lot. Nothing ever happened either... zzz

It's long since been stopped. I don't see English teachers going on a rant about how you should convert to Christianity or go to hell. Now if your talking about a teacher teaching a Christianity class then that's fine as its on subject.

Come to South Texas, Kansas or Missouri. I have had teachers tell me I am going to hell, that they will pray for me in the 2012 rapture, that they really would like to like me if I was only a child of god, etc. The dogma in the south is disgusting.

I cant take anyone who imposes their religion on others in any good light. There are many people who I dislike who have power and use that power to make religion law. It disgusts me. Take LGBT marriages being challenged to stay illegal in Texas. That is 100% religious based and it disgusts me. These people in power use religion to tell others what to do.

On a side note, I had a polar ice cap specialist "Doctor in Geology" talk about how the current US government worries her due to the stance on global warming. It didn't bother me because it is a place for higher education and thinking. Same with the kid who told another Doctor "You are full of shit for thinking we evolved from a different species." To each their own, Universities are a place for free thinking. I don't want that to be changed. When Universities become a place where one party rules over the other, it ceases to be a place of free thought, but one of tyranny.

The teacher is free to say what they want, we are free to agree or disagree. In the video, I would say that the students at that age are free to think of their own. They may agree or disagree, but I doubt any beliefs can be forced upon them at that age. It took me 12 years of questioning and thinking to leave religion. I can also sure as hell say that some of the stuff they told my in my polysci class was bullshit to me and it never changed my mind.

Communism and Socialism are not the same, Doctor... They have 2 different names for a reason. If the students are thin skinned to let something that petty get to them, they may need to go to their "safe space."

Yeah those teachers do not need to be telling you that your going to hell. That is not teaching that is brainwashing. If your way is correct you won't need brainwashing to get converts.

Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but there are some places where the realization is that it just isn't right to say stuff like this, especially since the kids aren't quite as aware of the political world. But that said, while it might be inappropriate, I leave it up to the teachers' judgment and as long as they say it properly, then it's not a problem. With the way it was expressed in the video, that's wrong.

Well, you obviously missed the 2012 rapture, but maybe you can get there next year. Wait, is there one every year, or are there multiple years between each?

some politic's could be fine.
But just bashing a guy or women to their views is rather best to be kept out of the school time (not in classes) or by herself.

I guess it shows how education and how people dislike each other rather then coming to a understanding or common ground (or the fact of being more civil).
From so many areas people get teached to shoot back at cops even for no reason.

I don't know where you were in Kansas, but at least where I am, we don't have much presentation of politics or religion in the classroom. Anything that is brought up is discussed in a calm manner, and usually in relation to what is going on in whatever unit we are in. Sure some of the teachers have political bias (though most of it is left-sided), but they only really speak freely on it if a student initiates the discussion.

I grew up in Texas, and I can tell you the teachers here are all Democrats. I was indoctrinated until 5 years out of high school when I got smacked by the real world. I already had doubts after having to do a report on Roe v. Wade in high school but the rest of the politics collapsed over time.

It is a detriment to the progress of those influenced by this in their lives and it should be stopped.

I mean if the professors want to throw their opinions around, fine whatever as long as the other side gets a fair chance to talk.

I use to love debating my econ professor about macroeconomics and how I found a lot in the textbook/mainstream neoliberalism to be a crock of crap. He always seemed to enjoy our conversations and gave me an "A" at the end of the semester. Was a shame that most of the rest of the class just nodded their heads and accepted everything blatantly.

As long as the professor allows for discussion/debate I have no problem with it. However, if they are going to spend the entire lecture day in and day out without allowing the other side/other point of view to be discussed, then it is no more than indoctrination and goes against everything the liberal arts is supposed to be about (developing critical thinking, independent thought, seeking truth through independent discovery, etc.)
