When I was younger and living in the shit parts of LA all I ever heard was hip hop, and since cali was where most west coast hip hop originated I grew to liking it

When I was in 5th grade, I had a teacher who used to perform opera, and he would occasionally play classical music in class (instrumental, not opera itself). It sounds odd, but before that point I had never really listened to classical music (at least, not for its own sake). I became instantly hooked though, and to this day, it's remained my favorite.

I'm not sure what I found so appealing about it back then though. It's weird, because I don't think I ever really listened to music before that point - it was always just something in the background my parents listened to. All of a sudden, I had found "my genre" - music I actually wanted to seek out.

Hip-hop, R&B (mostly from the 80's/90's) - because my cousin was a radio DJ when I was younger and it was the stuff he worked with on airplay. I did train to rap and sing for a couple of R&B and Pop groups.
Motown, Jazz, Swing, Latin - My dad played this type of stuff ALL the time. EVERYWHERE.
Classical, Polynesian, World - Classically trained in 3 instruments, did ballet, Polynesian dance, and Latin dance.
KPOP - It's so broad, but some artists that fall within the KPOP area have refined talents, and on-point production.

I would listen to whatever my dad would listen which would be hard rock, classic rock, disco, trash metal, Spanish music, and etc. My oldest brother and his friends got me into hip hop/rap.

It gave me a massive headache when I was first exposed to it.

Kept hanging around the same people, and it eventually became an acquired taste.

I spent a summer working at a jazz radio station when I was in college. I hadn't listened to much jazz before then, but that job opened my ears and now it's one of my favorite music genres.

I have more or less always preferred classical music. There was no genesis late in life.

I grew up with people who affiliated with bloods and rascals. And then when I was older, I started going to raves.

It's pretty much thanks to the very first Tony Hawk Pro Skater that I fell in love with punk and ska. I was like 9 or 10 years old and the very first song to play in the game was The Suicide Machines - New Girl and I was immediately hooked. Then Goldfinger - Superman played and it kinda just sunk it's teeth in me.

I mostly listen to classical music. It has been my favorite music genre for as long as I can remember, because I play classical music instruments. Started to learn to play music instruments when I was 3: First piano, then violin and cello.

I also like listening to K-Pop, J-Pop & J-Rock. Why? *shrugs* I don't know, just because I like it I guess... though I like K-Pop better than J-Pop. Also because I'm part Japanese and part Korean so I understand the languages.
