It looks like Sony discontinued the PSVita for the US (without any official announcement)

I can't find the system anywhere from major retailers..

The only option now is buy from those third party merchants/ marketplace sellers

but it's like buying from ebay all over again.. sellers who have the same "Gamestop's definition of NEW"

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00PV515DU/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

the rating of seller aside.. but the description..

if you have to buy a vita now a day.. what's a good place to avoid these sellers?

i don't want to buy a NEW ps vita that was already used, refurbished, or put together with parts from various vitas, etc..

Report it to Amazon, they don't put up with those types of items lying about condition. All you got to do is send them that screenshot and they will take it down. Hopefully you can find one on there. If not, have you tried Newegg (it's basically another Amazon-like site)?

In general, if the box has been opened, or there's no box at all, you can't really call it new.

This is where descriptors like lightly used, mint condition, display unit, refurbished, and so on are key,

My advice, honestly, is to never buy an expensive piece of electronic hardware from someplace you can't physically go to and ask for repairs/replacement. And should you buy used from such a locale, ask to see and possibly test it before walking out the door. Once you're out of ebay's buyer protection, any problem that's a direct result of past ownership can leave you with a brick.

Stick to anything that is fulfilled by the store itself (ie: you'll see "fulfilled by Amazon" on the Amazon website or "fulfilled by Newegg" on Newegg's site.) You'll have better customer service that way, so if you have an issue with the item as it arrives, then it is a pretty painless return/exchange process.

That aside, why not buy used? I paid $90 for mine with 2 MCs, the charger, one game, a hard case, and a controller grip, and it was in pristine condition, despite being from a 0 rating seller on eBay. Sony has essentially been calling the system EOL since 2013 or 2014; it has relatively few exclusives--and very few of those worth playing; and its reliance on the PSN with its limited memory (that must be Sony brand) really killed its popularity. So, it would basically be an expensive brick, if not for remote play. I wouldn't consider it worth the "new" price, but that's just me.

i avoid used electronics since i don't want to deal with "passed down" problems from the previous owners + at least i can get 2 year warranty if i buy new just in case something happened to it.. peace of mind pretty much

most of the games on the vita are coming from Japan now a day..

oh!! as i'm reading your post i noticed Amazon.com will be selling the system again *in stock 12/25

Sony is restocking the retailers?

$200 my ps4 slim uncharted 4 bundle was $212 (no tax+ free shipping).. so the vita will be more expensive after tax than a game console..

maybe they are restocking.. so i'll see if bestbuy will also restock if not i guess i'll have to go for it.. i hope they have a sale on the system this closer to Christmas

I bought my Vita refurbished, and it was cheaper.

I've had it for over 2 years now with no complaints
