For those who are decrying the apathy, remember the story of the boy who cried wolf. How many deadlines have passed without the promised apocalypse? How many times have the "experts" been wrong? I have heard hundreds of times that "Mankind (especially the U.S.) is going to cause X catastrophe!!! We must do something! Yield your freedoms to the rule of the experts!", and it never happens.

I find people's general apathy towards extinction to be somewhat ridiculous, but it's cool I guess. I mean, we'll be affected by extinction eventually, probably anyway. I will also say that we're the best at killing each other; and, we really ought to keep up the good work.

99% of earth's species were already dead by the time we made fire. Welcome to life, it's adapt or die.

Your statement is irrelevant. I was referring to the present, not ancient history. We, as a society, have a duty to preserve the environment. Darwinism is also irrelevant, because humans themselves are responsible for the most recent extinctions, not a natural process. Species decline in this day and age isn't due to natural selection, rather human negligence. That's just my opinion.

You don't seem to think that humans are part of the natural order. Please tell me what is not natural about humans.

Some animals just need to make way for the top of the food chain.

If we stopped wasting time on climate change we could work on our water, air, and land issues. Instead everyone is busy focusing on the red herring that even science says we can't do shit about currently. Nope let's ignore the stuff that can kill us for the stuff that has been happening for 100 million years.

Agreed there. Wish we would create some bacteria that broke plastic down fully. Lots of bacteria that eat stuff close to plastic but not the artificial stuff we make.
