Make her pay to show that you believe in independent women.

Agreed. Half and half .... keeps the focus off money and on enjoying each other.

Who are you referring to?

Everyone thinks that you're supposed to be equal but it's leaned towards the guy to spend especially on a first date. A mans wedding ring doesn't typically cost more than a females Diamond ring (random example)

I don't think it's "who should," but more like who's willing to. I wouldn't go on a first date with the expectation that my date would be paying to begin with. Ideally, I'd like to pay half and I wouldn't necessarily be poised to pay it all. I wouldn't stress about it though; and, even if I did pay for everything, I wouldn't be too bitter about it. However, if you're a traditionalist, which I'm not, it'd likely be the guy who'd be doing the paying. I say traditionalist, because men traditionally pay for the meal on the first date.

Usually I do on the first date, although I appreciate it when my date pays. Not that I care about the money per say, it just shows some sort of commitment in trying to get to know each other better on a more level ground.
